Your Impact As a Consulting Engineer, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, leading the strategy, design, and implementation of sophisticated Data Center and networking solutions that directly accelerate business outcomes. You will own end-to-end delivery of high-impact engagements, translating customer business requirements into scalable architectures while influencing technology transitions at the highest levels. Partner with Cisco account teams, partners, and multi-functional collaborators to align solution designs with customer goals, driving measurable success across pre-sales and delivery phases. Act as the primary escalation point for sophisticated problem resolution, demonstrating deep technical expertise to resolve sophisticated issues across a broad range of technologies. Develop and contribute digital intellectual capital, repeatable delivery frameworks, and knowledge-sharing practices that elevate the entire consulting practice. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 812 years of relevant experience in customer-facing technical consulting, pre-sales, and/or service delivery rolesDeep knowledge of L2/L3 networking protocols and technologies (vPC, STP, HSRP, OSPF,EIGRP, BGP) with strong hands-on Nexus 2K/5K/7K/9K platform experienceLead & drive technology design, implementation, execution, and/or optimization for projects/accounts to accelerate customer outcomes.Proven experience in design and deployment of Data Center solutions including traditional DC standalone Nexus design, Cisco VXLAN Fabric and Cisco ACI Fabric solutions using ACI MultiPod /Multisite/Remote Leaf Fabric architectures.Partnered with customers to design and implement network solutions, ensuring seamless system integration and proactive service assuranceActive Data Center certification such as CCIE or CCNP, or equivalent vendor certification (e.g. VCP)Experience integrating network services appliances (such as firewalls, IPS, load balancers, WAN optimizers) within Data Center solution designsExperience in Build and reviews project work e.g. Design recommendations, High-Level Design, Low-Level Design, Implementation/ Change Management Plans.Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of software programmability, automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform and so on), orchestration, and/or virtualization technologiesExperience with compute, virtualization, and container environments including Cisco UCS, HyperFlex, VMware, Microsoft, and KubernetesTechnical familiarity with multi-cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud from a network integration perspectiveProven ability to mentor and develop junior engineers, with experience leading high-visibility strategic consulting engagements Why Cisco At Cisco, were revolutionizing how data and infrastructure connect and protect organizations in the AI era and beyond. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
