Develops, runs, and validates simulation models for various plant configurations; benchmarks model outputs against engineering package (EP) data; and supports technology groups in data validation and value-engineering initiatives. Key Responsibilities Develop and run process simulation models (steady-state and/or dynamic) for various plant configurations gasification, syngas conditioning, CO shift, AGR, methanation, and utility systems; summarise and document simulation outputs in structured technical reportsCheck and verify simulation model outputs against Engineering Package (EP) data; identify deviations, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actionsReview vendor and licensor data sheets against simulation results; prepare technical queries (TQs) for resolution of discrepancies in process conditions, stream compositions, and equipment performanceSupport PFD and P&ID review by cross-checking process conditions, stream data, and equipment sizing against simulation runs; flag inconsistencies and track resolutionSupport technology groups during Pre-FEED, Basic Engineering, and FEED stages in validation of data and inputs received from Engineering Packages; ensure simulation inputs are consistent with project basisDrive and support value-engineering (VE) initiatives through sensitivity studies, alternative configuration simulations, and trade-off analyses; quantify potential cost or efficiency benefitsPrepare and maintain simulation basis documents, model descriptions, and assumption logs; ensure models are version-controlled and traceable to project revisionsAssist in preparation of Heat & Mass Balances (HMBs), utility summaries, and process design basis documents using simulation outputsParticipate in technology evaluation activities licensor proposals, TBE preparation, and performance guarantee reviews providing simulation-based technical inputsInterface with equipment engineers, process engineers, and technology managers to ensure simulation outputs are correctly interpreted and applied in engineering deliverables. Key Skills & Competencies Proficiency in industry-standard process simulation tools Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, Pro/II, or equivalent; experience with coal/syngas process flowsheets preferredSound understanding of thermodynamic packages and their selection criteria for syngas, acid gas, and cryogenic systemsAbility to critically compare simulation outputs with vendor/EP data; experience preparing technical queries and managing vendor responsesFamiliarity with PFD and P&ID review; understanding of process flow, control philosophy, and safety systemsWorking knowledge of major unit operations relevant to gasification downstream: CO shift, AGR (Rectisol, Selexol, or similar), cryogenic separation, methanationAnalytical mindset ability to perform sensitivity studies, scenario analyses, and trade-off assessments to support VE decisionsGood documentation practices; ability to prepare clear technical reports, assumption logs, and simulation summariesStrong communication skills; ability to present simulation findings to technology managers and multi-discipline engineering teamsAwareness of applicable project lifecycle deliverables across Pre-FEED, Basic Engineering, and FEED stages. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
