Job Profile Summary The Automation Engineer is a key member of the VCF9 Migration Factory Delivery Pod's Execution tier, building automation that raises migration throughput and eliminates manual swivel-chair work between tracking systems. Owns the design and development of PowerCLI, Ansible, and HCX orchestration and Terraform automation against VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) APIs, in direct support of bulk and on-demand migration waves. Applies creative problem-solving to identify automation gaps while keeping the Migration Coordinator and customer aware of progress. Uses initiative and standard programming practices to ensure the stability and security of the pod's automated solutions. Key Responsibilities Designs and builds Terraform automation modules against VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) APIs to provision and configure SDDC and workload domain components in support of migration waves. Develops PowerCLI and Ansible scripts to automate vSphere, vSAN, and NSX configuration tasks supporting bulk and on-demand migration execution. Builds and maintains VMware HCX orchestration automation to accelerate bulk templated VM migrations and reduce manual handling between source and target environments. Integrates automation with ServiceNow/ticketing and wave-tracking systems to eliminate manual swivel-chair work and improve wave throughput reporting. Partners with the Migration Architect and Senior Migration Engineer to translate approved SDDC VCF mapping and rollback designs into reusable, repeatable automation. Proposes and implements enhancements that improve the capability, performance, and reliability of Delivery Pod automations; coordinates development, upgrading, monitoring, testing, and servicing of automations already in use. Builds and supports automations for deployment, diagnostics, and remediation that run against customer VCF environments, including bulk and on-demand solutions. Maintains automation source control, versioning, and documentation to support the Documentation/Runbook Specialist's knowledge-transfer artifacts. Knowledge Intermediate to advanced knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), vSphere, and vSAN administration and APIs Intermediate knowledge of NSX networking constructs as they relate to automated migration workflows Intermediate knowledge of Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with Windows and/or OS system tools Intermediate knowledge in the areas of new developments and trends in VMware and cloud automation tooling Skills VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Automation PowerCLI Scripting Ansible Terraform / Infrastructure-as-Code VMware HCX Orchestration AI/Machine Learning Cloud Computing Cybersecurity DevOps Coding Skills Network/Systems Skills Education High School Diploma or regional equivalent required Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in a field related to role. At the managers discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement Certifications VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) required, or obtained within 90 days of hire VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) specialty certification preferred HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate preferred Experience 5 7 years of experience in the field of role required, including at least 2 years automating VMware/VCF environments .
