PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)Migrations, HA&DR (New Delhi)

About the Role We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to own the operational reliability, availability, and resilience of our PostgreSQL environment. This role is responsible for managing database migrations, designing and maintaining High Availability (HA) architectures, and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies across data centers. You will be the go-to expert ensuring our PostgreSQL infrastructure is robust, performant, and production-ready at scale. Key Responsibilities - Plan, test, and execute schema and data migrations with minimal downtime (including zero downtime migration strategies for large production databases). - Design, implement, and maintain High Availability (HA) architectures using tools such as Patroni, repmgr, pg_auto_failover, or similar. - Design and manage Disaster Recovery (DR) setups, including cross-datacenter (DC-DR) replication, failover, and failback procedures. Configure and manage streaming replication, logical replication, and physical backups (pg_basebackup, WAL-G, pgBackRest, Barman). - Define and regularly test RPO/RTO objectives; run DR drills and failover simulations. - Own backup and restore strategy, ensuring backups are reliable, encrypted, and regularly validated through restore testing. Monitor database health, performance, and capacity; proactively tune configuration (postgresql.conf, autovacuum, memory settings, connection pooling). - Manage connection pooling infrastructure (PgBouncer/Pgpool-II) for scalability and stability. Implement and enforce security best practices: role-based access control, encryption at rest/in transit, auditing, and compliance requirements. Collaborate with engineering teams on schema design reviews, query optimization, and capacity planning. - Build and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and automation (Ansible/Terraform/scripts) for routine operations, failover, and recovery procedures. Participate in on-call rotation to respond to incidents, outages, and performance issues. - Work closely with the core engine/extensions team to validate operational impact of new features, extensions, or fork changes before production rollout. Plan and execute PostgreSQL major/minor version upgrades across environments. Required Skills & Experience - 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience in production environments. - Proven experience designing and operating HA PostgreSQL clusters (Patroni + etcd/Consul/ZooKeeper, repmgr, or equivalent). - Hands-on experience with cross-datacenter DR architectures, including asynchronous replication, failover orchestration, and failback. - Strong experience with backup/recovery tools (pgBackRest, WAL-G, Barman) and point-in-time recovery (PITR). - Deep understanding of PostgreSQL replication (streaming, logical, cascading replication) and conflict resolution. - Experience planning and executing large-scale, low-downtime schema/data migrations. - Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning: indexing strategy, query plan analysis (EXPLAIN/ANALYZE), vacuum/autovacuum tuning, memory and I/O configuration. - Experience with connection pooling tools (PgBouncer, Pgpool-II). Solid Linux systems administration skills (networking, storage, filesystems, systemd). Experience with infrastructure automation (Ansible, Terraform) and scripting (Bash/Python). Familiarity with monitoring/alerting stacks (Prometheus + Grafana, pgwatch2, Datadog, Zabbix, etc.). - Robust understanding of security and compliance practices for database environments (encryption, Auditing, RBAC) .
