Position Summary: We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Trainee to join our team. As a GIS Trainee, you will support spatial data processing, map creation, and geographic analysis tasks. This role is ideal for recent graduates passionate about geospatial technologies and looking to build a career in GIS, mapping, remote sensing, or spatial analytics. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in creating, editing, and maintaining GIS maps and spatial databases. - Perform data entry, digitization, and georeferencing of spatial data. - Process satellite/drone imagery and generate orthomosaics or contour maps. - Support spatial analysis and report preparation using GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar). - Collaborate with survey, remote sensing, or planning teams for project execution. - Document procedures and ensure data accuracy and quality. - Organize and maintain GIS datasets and associated metadata. - Convert/Export the data to multiple formats as requested - Design workflows and standard operating procedures for geospatial data processing and analysis. - Document processes, including steps and tools used for geospatial data collection and visualisation. - Create shape files with detailed attributes to be used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). - Ensure compatibility of geospatial data with various platforms and applications. - Establish and maintain a robust geospatial database, ensuring data accuracy and security. Requirements Qualifications: - Education: - Diploma, Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field with a focus on GIS. - Experience: - 0 - 1 year of professional experience as a GIS Trainee or in a similar role. - Proven knowledge in geospatial data collection, database management, and spatial analysis. - Skills and Competencies: - Strong understanding of GIS concepts, including spatial analysis, data visualisation, and geodatabase management. - Excellent analytical skills to interpret geospatial data and provide actionable insights. - Proficiency in documenting workflows and technical procedures. - Effective communication skills for presenting geospatial findings and collaborating with team members. - Enthusiasm for staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and continuously improving skills. Software Expertise: Candidates must have knowledge of the following tools and software: 1. GIS Software: - ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro) - QGIS - Database Management: - PostgreSQL/PostGIS - MySQL or SQL Server - Remote Sensing Tools (Optional): - ENVI or ERDAS Imagine - Programming Skills (Preferred): - Python (with GIS libraries such as GeoPandas, PySAL, or GDAL) - R (for geospatial analysis) - Other Tools: - Google Earth Pro - AutoCAD (for CAD-GIS integration) - Global Mapper - Photogrammetry - Basic knowledge of drone mapping or photogrammetry workflows - Awareness of GPS/GNSS surveying tools and field data collection.
