STAFF ACCOUNTANT, GLOBAL ACCOUNTING Location:India, Remote, needs to be able to work in US time zone EST/PST Employment Status: Regular, Full-Time Reports To: Team Lead Supervisory Responsibilities: None Compensation: 17 to 19 lakh per annum Job Summary The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) is an independent, mission-driven global organization working to advance a clean, reliable, and equitable energy future. With teams and operations spanning the United States, Europe, China, India, and other markets, RAP works across jurisdictions while maintaining the strong financial stewardship, accountability, and compliance expected of an international nonprofit organization. RAP is entering an important period of organizational growth and evolution. As our global operations become increasingly interconnected, we have an opportunity to strengthen the systems, capabilities, and shared services that support our work across regions. Finance is a critical part of this evolution. We are focused on building a more integrated and scalable finance function that combines strong local and entity-level accountability with consistent global standards, better financial insight, and clearer ownership of core processes. As part of this work, RAP is proposing to expand its internal finance capacity in India. The objective is broader than adding transactional accounting support. We have an opportunity to build a high-performing finance team with expertise spanning United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, nonprofit and grant accounting, global reconciliations, financial planning and analysis, reporting, systems, and internal controls. The proposed structure is designed to build long-term institutional capability within RAP, create meaningful career pathways for finance professionals in India, reduce dependency on external service providers, and position the finance function to support a larger and increasingly complex global organization. The Staff Accountant, Global Accounting is responsible for core general ledger accounting, close, complex reconciliations, grants accounting, payroll reconciliation and intercompany activity supporting RAP's United States and global operations. The Staff Accountant independently owns assigned accounting processes and is expected to investigate discrepancies, maintain accurate supporting documentation and contribute to improvements in financial controls and processes. Essential Functions General Ledger and Close Prepare journal entries, accruals, reclassifications and accounting adjustments. Own assigned portions of monthly and year-end close. Prepare balance-sheet and general ledger reconciliations. Maintain supporting schedules. Investigate and resolve reconciling items. Review general ledger activity for unusual transactions and incorrect classifications. Support consolidation and cross-entity reconciliations. Ensure documentation is complete and audit-ready. Grants and Fund Accounting Support accounting for restricted and unrestricted funding. Assist with grant revenue recognition. Reconcile grant expenditures and balances. Review project, grant, department and functional expense classifications. Support grant financial reporting. Reconcile grant budgets to accounting records. Investigate grant-accounting discrepancies. Payroll and Employee Costs Reconcile payroll provider reports to the general ledger. Review salary, benefit, tax and other employee cost entries. Reconcile payroll information across systems. Prepare payroll-related journal entries and schedules. Investigate payroll accounting discrepancies. Intercompany and Global Accounting Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions. Support intercompany billing and settlements. Reconcile balances between RAP entities. Support multi-currency accounting. Investigate cross-entity differences. Maintain appropriate intercompany documentation. Audit and Controls Prepare schedules and analyses for external audits. Respond to assigned auditor requests. Maintain appropriate supporting documentation. Follow established accounting controls. Identify recurring accounting issues and control concerns. Support year-end and tax preparation. Process Improvement Maintain standard operating procedures. Identify opportunities to improve reconciliations and controls. Support finance-system improvements. Participate in cross-training. Provide technical assistance to more junior accounting staff. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field. Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong general ledger and month-end close experience. Advanced working knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience preparing reconciliations and .
