Covington & Burling LLP is seeking a Payroll Tax Compliance Analyst who will monitor employer and employee tax contributions and ensure compliance with payroll tax legislation. The role involves analyzing payroll tax data, preparing tax payments, and collaborating with various teams to maintain accurate tax reporting and compliance procedures.ResponsibilitiesAnalyzes multi-jurisdiction payroll tax data and performs calculations, and ensures that payroll information is reported to federal, state and local agencies as may be requiredEnsure the preparation and processing of accurate and timely federal, multi-state and multi-jurisdiction withholding tax payments and returnsHandle correspondence with Workday, ADP, and other payroll-related entities, including all federal and state compliance notices from tax and/or other regulatory agencies; track progress from receipt of notice to resolutionResponsible for reconciliations and balancing between third-party tax reports and Workday tax reports to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end reportingAccountable for detailed analysis of all payroll entries that impact the accuracy of tax withholding and reportingDesign, document, and review payroll tax processing and reconciliation proceduresWork with the Payroll Director and Payroll team to organize and facilitate ongoing development, evaluation and maintenance of documentation to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of processesPartner with General Ledger Team to ensure prompt reconciliation to tax variancesMonitoring of legislative changesOngoing monitoring of various tax rates and ensuring proper rate setup in Workday and ADPIncorporation of legislative changes into the HRIS and payroll systemGenerating reports for internal and external auditsActive role with integrations and other projectsSkillsBA/ BS degree in Accounting / Business/ or Tax (or equivalent experience)5 years of payroll and tax experience3+ years in multi-state payroll tax environmentExpert knowledge of ExcelAbility to present technical data in a clear and concise manner to various audiencesExpert knowledge of common HRIS - Workday requiredAttentive to detail and ability to work accurately under deadline pressureMaintain confidential information discreetly and protect employee privacyService orientation and collaborative attitudeBenefitsCandidates hired for staff positions with a minimum work schedule of 30 hours per week are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare insurance.Company OverviewCovington & Burling LLP is an international law firm that provides legal advisory services.
