Job Summary The position will have strong experience in embedded systems, IoT gateways, industrial field protocols, and secure firmware lifecycle validation. You will ensure the functional correctness, robustness, reliability, and security of our embedded C++ gateway platform, including Azure IoT Hub communication, hawkBit and SWUpdate firmware updates, and industrial protocols such as Modbus Serial, Modbus TCP, and CAN bus. This role is highly handson. You will design test strategies, build automated test frameworks, operate hardwareintheloop test setups, and collaborate closely with firmware, cloud, hardware, and DevOps teams. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent years of experience 37+ years of experience in embedded system testing, QA engineering, or IoT device validation Strong understanding of C++ firmware behavior (reading & analyzing code, debugging tests) Experience testing embedded Linux or RTOS-based gateways Handson experience with hawkBit and SWUpdate Modbus Serial (RTU) and Modbus TCP PCAN bus testing and analysis Strong Python scripting capability for automation and test tool development Proficiency with lab equipment (CAN analyzers, Modbus simulators, USBtoserial tools, oscilloscopes) Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, TLS, certificates, provisioning flows) Preferred Qualifications Experience with IoT cloud platforms, fleet management, or gateway deployment Familiarity with secure boot, signed firmware images, and SBOM/security compliance Knowledge of Yocto, Buildroot, systemd, and Linux internals Experience with MQTT, AMQP, REST APIs, or proprietary field protocol Familiarity with J1939, CANOpen, or other industrial stack Experience building HIL / automated protocol simulation frameworks (pytest, Robot Framework, custom rigs) Exposure to DevOps practices for firmware CI pipeline Knowledge of SQL server and general database management concepts Embedded Gateway & IoT Connectivity Test Test embedded C++ firmware on Linux/RTOS-based IoT gateway. Validate Azure IoT Hub communication workflows, including telemetry, D2C and C2D messaging, device twins, and service endpoints. Validate telemetry messaging. Validate cloudtodevice (C2D) communication. Manage device twins. Rotate certificates and maintain secure connectivity. Validate message queueing, offline buffering, reconnect logic, and retry behavior under realworld network conditions. Develop and execute test cases. CAN bus: arbitration, extended/standard IDs, error frames, bus overload, and edgecase behavior. Use protocol analyzers, CAN interfaces, Modbus simulators, and logic analyzers to capture and analyze traffic. Firmware Update & OTA Lifecycle Validation Test firmware and system updates using hawkBit. Validate update workflows under stress, including corrupted image scenarios. Perform update rollback and fallback behaviour. Ensure secure update chainoftrust, signature verification, and partition layout integrity. Automation & CI/CD Integration Develop automated test suites using Python or C++ to validate firmware, protocols, OTA processes, and system services. Build hardwareintheloop (HIL) automated test setups for regression, protocol simulation, and device behavior testing. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins). Maintain automation tools for serial logging, bus capture, cloud message verification, and gateway diagnostics. Debugging & Quality Report Investigate firmware and system issues via logs, traces, core dumps, serial output, and protocol captures. Reproduce field issues in controlled environments and collaborate with engineering teams to diagnose root causes. Generate test reports, defect metrics, and release readiness assessments. Contribute to continuous improvement of testing tools, processes, and standards. Use AI in a QA role or a SDLC environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Technical Curiosity: Comfortable working deeply with hardware, firmware, and cloud systems. Analytical Mindset: Able to isolate complex system interactions and identify root causes. Attention to Detail: Thorough and methodical approach to systemlevel testing. Automation First: Passion for replacing manual steps with reliable automated tools. Collaboration: Works well with firmware engineers, cloud developers, hardware teams, and product owners. .
