At Cepheid, our mission is delivering A Better Way to improve patient outcomes by enabling access to molecular diagnostic testing everywhere. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Perform hands-on triage, troubleshooting, and system-level integration activities across all Cepheid instruments and subsystems, developing expert technical understanding of product architectureLead and execute technical project tasks within cross-functional engineering environments, ensuring alignment with system requirementsConduct laboratory testing in engineering, instrument, and biology labs using established diagnostic, instrumentation, and assay workflowsAnalyze complex engineering and biological datasets to identify performance trends, system risks, and areas to perform investigation using quantitative data analysis toolsRepresent Systems Integration function on Core or Extended Project Teams, as well as collaborating with System Verification and Human Factors Engineering team in developing test methods and test plans for system verification and validation activities The essential requirements of the job include: Bachelors degree in engineering, molecular biology, life sciences, or related technical discipline with 5+ years industry laboratory experience, OR Masters degree with 3+ years experience as an engineer, scientist, or product developer (e.g., System Integration Engineer, System Development Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Physicist), or equivalent advanced degree with practical experience to perform at this levelDemonstrated experience developing and integrating complex instrumentation systems incorporating optical, mechanical, thermal, and firmware/software componentsProficiency applying design of experiments methodologies, interpreting test results, and performing failure investigations for systemlevel performance evaluationAdvanced analytical and troubleshooting capability to assess system interfaces and resolve system interoperability issues using data analysis tools such as Origin, Matlab, Minitab, or Image Analysis SoftwareExperience generating system architecture documents, requirements, specifications, and traceability matrices, including preparation of technical documentation and reports It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: Medical device or biotechnology industry with GMP and GLP experienceProgramming experience in C/C++ or Python.Verification and/or Validation experience.Knowledge of analog and digital electronics, hardware test method development, optomechanical design and assembly, electromechanical assembly. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
