Introduction to the Team: At Expedia Group, our Cyber Security team builds cloud platforms, services, data pipelines, and automation that help protect our business, customers, partners, and employees. As an SDE II, you will independently deliver end-to-end capabilities within a service and contribute to broader cloud and AI-focused security initiatives. You will apply sound software engineering practices to solve defined technical problems, explain how your work supports security and business outcomes, and use data to test relevant assumptions. You will work with senior engineers on broader architecture and complex initiatives, while owning the quality, observability, operational health, and continuous improvement of the components and services assigned to you. In this role, you will: Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure software services and components that support Expedia Group products and platforms. Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineers to translate business and customer requirements into robust system designs, including low-level design, API design, and data models. Write clean, maintainable, and welldocumented code, automated tests, and tooling that improve reliability, observability, and operational excellence for your services. Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions, identifying opportunities to simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve performance and quality across multiple services or domains. Own the endtoend lifecycle of features and services, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and incremental improvement, while safely integrating and operating AI/MLenabled solutions that improve outcomes. Work across different parts of the stack or adjacent domains as needed, building familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience. 2+ years of relevant professional experience. Handson proficiency in at least one modern programming language and related ecosystem, with experience in system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling for serviceoriented or microservices architectures. Experience owning features or services through development, testing, deployment, and operational support, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues. Solid understanding of core computer science and engineering fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, distributed systems concepts, and secure coding practices. Preferred Qualifications: Experience designing and implementing scalable, faulttolerant, and highthroughput services, including wellstructured APIs and data models that serve multiple teams or domains. Demonstrated track record of improving service availability, performance, or reliability through metrics, observability, automation, and strong operational practices. Background integrating or leveraging AI/MLenabled components or platforms within production systems, and safely operating AIdriven features to enhance customer and business outcomes. Experience working across multiple technical domains or layers of the stack (e.g., frontend, backend, data, or platform services), adapting quickly to new technologies, patterns, and AIdriven tooling. Ability to contribute to and influence technical designs within a team or product area, making datadriven decisions and helping to evolve engineering standards, patterns, and best practices. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
