Financial Controller Manufacturing, Cost Accounting & U.S. E-Commerce We are seeking an experienced hands-on Financial Controller to manage our accounting and financial reporting processes and work closely with company owners and our on-site operations team to develop effective inventory, costing, and financial-control systems. This is not a bookkeeping-only position or a supervisory-only Controller role. The successful candidate will personally perform accounting work, complete month-end close, maintain accurate financial records, investigate discrepancies, and provide financial analysis to management. Key Responsibilities Maintain the company's accounting records in QuickBooks OnlineMaintain accurate accrual-basis accountingIndependently complete the month-end closePerform bank, credit card, clearing account, and balance-sheet reconciliationsPrepare journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and supporting schedulesMaintain accurate inventory accountingWork directly with company owners and the on-site warehouse/production team to understand material and inventory flowsHelp develop and implement practical systems for tracking inventory throughout purchasing, receiving, storage, production, and fulfillmentEstablish processes for reconciling operational inventory records with financial inventory recordsDevelop appropriate procedures for physical inventory counts, adjustments, material usage, waste, scrap, damaged materials, and reusable materialsHelp establish inventory controls and identify the operational data required for accurate accounting and costingPerform manufacturing and cost accounting, including material usage, product costing, production costs, and cost variancesMaintain and review Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) calculationsCalculate and maintain landed costs for purchased and imported materials/inventoryReconcile supplier purchases, inventory receipts, and related accounting recordsReconcile e-commerce marketplace transactions and settlementsAccount for marketplace sales, fees, refunds, reimbursements, adjustments, and clearing accountsPrepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow StatementsAnalyze gross margin, contribution margin, product/category profitability, inventory, and operating costsPerform financial variance and trend analysisAssist with budgeting, forecasting, working-capital analysis, and cash-flow planningInvestigate accounting and inventory discrepancies independently and recommend appropriate correctionsImprove accounting processes, documentation, and internal controlsPrepare financial information and supporting schedules for management and external U.S. accounting and tax professionalsInventory & Operational Systems A key part of this position is working with both management and the company's on-site team to establish reliable inventory and costing processes. The Controller should be able to understand how materials move through the business and translate those operational processes into an accounting and inventory-control system that is accurate without being unnecessarily complicated. This includes helping determine: What inventory information should be capturedHow material usage should be recordedHow inventory movements should be documentedHow physical inventory should be reconciled to financial recordsHow production-related inventory adjustments should be handledHow product costs and COGS should be calculatedWhat controls and procedures are needed to maintain reliable inventory informationThe Controller will work remotely, so strong communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with on-site employees are important. What We Are Looking For We are looking for an experienced accountant who can perform these responsibilities independently. Training will be provided regarding our company, products, systems, and internal procedures. However, candidates should already have strong practical experience with QuickBooks Online, month-end close, inventory accounting, manufacturing/cost accounting, COGS, and financial reporting. We are specifically looking for someone who can evaluate an operational process, ask the right questions, determine what financial information needs to be captured, and help develop a practical accounting and control system around it. When an account, inventory balance, or financial result appears unusual, you should be capable of reviewing the underlying records, working with the relevant team members, identifying the cause, and recommending an appropriate solution. Management reporting should go beyond simply producing financial statements.
