Department: Empowerment Centre Experience: 45 years Location: Vidyashilp Academy Job Summary: Vidyashilp Academy is looking for a Behavioural Counsellor to provide counselling and behavioural support to students across grades. The role will involve understanding students' emotional, social, and behavioural needs, conducting counselling sessions, supporting behavioural interventions, and working closely with teachers and parents. The position is an Individual Contributor (IC) role with a strong focus on direct student support, case management, documentation, and collaboration with the school support team. Key Responsibilities: 1. Student Counselling & Behavioural Support Conduct individual and group counselling sessions for students across different grades.Understand and assess students' emotional, behavioural, social, and developmental needs.Support students dealing with anxiety, emotional difficulties, behavioural concerns, peer-related issues, academic stress, and other challenges.Support the implementation of Behavioural Intervention Plans (BIPs) in coordination with teachers, parents, and relevant school staff.Observe student behaviour and provide appropriate counselling and behavioural strategies.Provide timely support during behavioural or emotional crises, following school SOPs and child protection protocols.Identify students who may require additional support and recommend appropriate interventions or referrals.2. Collaboration with Teachers & Parents Work closely with teachers, special educators, and other support staff to understand and address student concerns.Provide teachers with practical guidance on managing behavioural and emotional challenges in the classroom.Communicate with parents regarding student progress, concerns, and recommended support strategies.Coordinate with external psychologists, counsellors, therapists, or other professionals when referrals are required.Participate in case discussions for students requiring additional support while maintaining confidentiality.3. Awareness & Support Programs Conduct appropriate awareness sessions for students on emotional well-being, stress management, relationships, self-awareness, and related topics.Support workshops and awareness programs for teachers and parents.Contribute to initiatives promoting positive student behaviour, emotional well-being, and a safe school environment.Keep updated on relevant developments in child and adolescent psychology and school counselling practices.4. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate and confidential counselling records and case notes.Document student observations, interventions, follow-ups, and progress.Maintain appropriate records of counselling sessions and referrals.Prepare periodic updates and reports as required by the school.Follow school policies, SOPs, ethical counselling practices, and applicable child protection requirements, including mandatory reporting obligations under POCSO. Qualifications: Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field preferred.Relevant counselling certification or professional qualification will be an added advantage.45 years of relevant experience in school counselling, child counselling, or behavioural support.Experience working with children and adolescents in a school environment is preferred.Practical experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, emotional concerns, or behavioural challenges will be an advantage.Good understanding of child protection, confidentiality, and ethical practices in a school setting. Key Skills & Competencies: Strong counselling and active listening skills.Empathy, patience, and emotional sensitivity.Ability to understand and manage student behavioural concerns.Good interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to build trust and rapport with students.Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and the school support team.Good case documentation and follow-up skills.Sound judgement while handling sensitive and confidential student matters.Commitment to student well-being, safety, and ethical counselling practices.
