## What youll do: Leadership and people (manager of managers) \- Lead an organization of 45 to 50 embedded software engineers through 3 to 5 engineering managers and technical leaders. \- Own hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, career development, succession planning and retention for your leaders and their teams. \- Build a strong leadership bench, reduce single-point dependencies and develop the next line of managers. \- Set clear goals and priorities, run an effective operating rhythm, and create a healthy, inclusive and high-performance culture. Delivery and execution \- Deliver more than 95 percent on-time delivery across key portfolios while operating within a flat headcount and budget envelope. \- Own release predictability, software quality, defect triage, field issue resolution and customer escalations. \- Drive Agile and Scrum practices, milestone planning, risk management and cross-team dependency management. Technical governance \- Provide technical direction across embedded firmware, desktop, on-premise, cloud-connected and mobile applications. \- Own architecture governance, design and code reviews, reuse strategy, technical debt reduction and platform thinking. \- Ensure engineering rigor for safety-critical and regulated products, including functional safety and cybersecurity compliance. Portfolio and stakeholders \- Own multiple product lines across emergency lighting, fire safety, intrusion and UPS systems from concept to sustaining. \- Partner with product management, global engineering leaders, quality, supply chain and customers to align roadmaps and commitments. \- Contribute to annual operating planning, capacity planning, vendor strategy and capital and operating expense decisions. Innovation and AI adoption \- Champion AI-assisted engineering (for example code assistants and test automation) and drive measurable productivity and quality gains. \- Lead innovation initiatives, protect time for experimentation, and encourage patents, disclosures and reuse. \- Teach, mentor and coach engineering and Agile best practices across the broader engineering community. ## Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science or related engineering discipline. Desired: Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science or Embedded Systems. ## Skills: 15 to 18 years of design experience of embedded systems software - embedded linux and RTOS Prior experience as organizational leader for a minum of 5 to 10 years in globally distributed teams Experience leading organizations with at least 40 members Experience utilizing best practices in software engineering, Agile development methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps, etc. Experience with budget, staffing and capacity planning for a sizeable engineering organization Knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management. Experience in Embedded Systems including RTOS and Linux based platforms - Software stacks of FreeRTOS and Zephyr, Linux - Yocto, EdgeX Track record of demonstrated lauches of products Proven digitally savvy leader experienced in delivering monetized IoT products and services to market. Experienced with software software estimation techniques, fieldbus protocols for industrial IoT products. Ability to work within matrixed environments. Proven track record of building and managing successful development teams. Expert level working knowledge of open source software, agile methodologies, design thinking techniques and ability to employ open, shared and saleable development principles within an enterprise. Empathizes and actively learns about customers needs and how they create value. Builds relationships outside of engineering teams to understand, influence, and serve as their advocate. Demonstrated experience in building organizational capabilities around technology; developments high performing talent and builds succession depth. Strong organizational leadership skills. Extensive experience in hiring talented people for diverse, productive development teams. Ability to manage multiple projects and resolve issues that impact deadlines; ability to make decisions quickly under conflicting constraints, moving rapidly to meet the demands of a fast-growing company. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact with a variety of internal/external customers and/or co-workers. .

Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
