This Position reports to: R&D Team Lead In this role, you will have the opportunity to initiate and drive technology, software, product, and/or solution development using in-depth technical expertise in a specific area. Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development (R&D) for in-depth product or technology-related issues. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting strategic corporate technology management and future product/software/solution architecture. The work model for the role is: Hybrid #LI Hybrid This role is contributing to the Process Automation Business of Process Control Platform Division in Bangalore Location. You will be mainly accountable for: Design and develop scalable cloud-native and edge-enabled industrial software solutions using microservice architectures. Drive end-to-end product development from requirements analysis and architecture design through implementation, testing, deployment, and support. Define and govern application, data, integration, and security architectures across cloud and edge environments. Lead major technology initiatives, providing technical direction, mentorship, and architectural oversight to engineering teams. Collaborate with product management, R&D teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. Establish and promote software engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural governance. Drive DevOps adoption, CI/CD strategies, automated testing, and release management practices. Ensure high availability, scalability, observability, and maintainability of distributed systems. Champion cybersecurity principles, secure-by-design approaches, and compliance with industrial security standards. Lead quality improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement programs across the product portfolio. Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies in cloud, edge computing, industrial connectivity, and AI-driven solutions. Contribute to strategic technology roadmaps aligned with ABBs industrial digitalization and automation objectives. Qualifications for the role: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 15+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with C#/.NET/.NET Core and modern web technologies. Strong expertise in microservices, distributed systems, software architecture patterns, SOLID principles, and system design. Experience designing and implementing IoT solutions using REST APIs, WebSocket, MQTT, AMQP, or similar technologies. Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, MicroShift, K3s, or other container and edge orchestration platforms. Strong cloud-native experience on Azure, AWS, or GCP, preferably for Industrial IoT workloads, including Azure IoT Hub or AWS IoT Core. Deep understanding of security concepts including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, Zero Trust architecture, PKI, certificate management, and secure edge deployments. Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms, including automated testing and release strategies. Strong knowledge of observability practices, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana. Experience with relational and non-relational databases, time-series data management, historian integration, and industrial data modeling. Familiarity with industrial communication technologies such as OPC UA and industrial standards such as ISA-95. Awareness of industrial cybersecurity and compliance frameworks including IEC 62443 and ISO 27001, with experience applying them in enterprise or industrial environments. Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
