Role description Job Description: Senior Database Operations Engineer (Senior DB Ops) Location: Offshore (India development centers) Experience 10-15 years of overall IT experience with strong focus on SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure / Cloud-based database environments, Azure Cloud, Database Reliability, Automation, and Operational Support Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Operations Engineer (Senior DB Ops)to lead database operations, automation, and reliability initiatives across cloud and hybrid environments. This role requires deep expertise in database platforms, DevOps practices, monitoring, and Azure ecosystem services. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) architecture, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with Infrastructure, Application, and Security teams. This role demands strong troubleshooting skills, end-to-end operational ownership, and an automation-first mindset, with the ability to support mission-critical production systems in a fast-paced enterprise environment. Key Responsibilities Own database reliability, availability, performance, scalability, and resilience across Production, UAT, QA, and Development environments Lead database operations across SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and other Azure/cloud database services Manage and ensure robust database backup, restore, and recovery strategies aligned with RPO/RTO objectives Perform database maintenance activities including index optimization, statistics management, and data integrity validation Monitor and troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, replication latency, long-running queries, and performance bottlenecks Design, configure, and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, and failover mechanisms Implement proactive monitoring, ing, and observability using tools such as SentryOne and operational dashboards Automate routine operational tasks using PowerShell, Python, Azure Automation Runbooks, Terraform, and Ansible Support CI/CD pipelines, database deployments, and operational/release automation using Azure DevOps Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning Participate in production incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews Collaborate with application teams for query tuning, schema design reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization Continuously reduce operational toil through automation, standardization, and self-healing practices Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with organizational policies Optimize cost and resource utilization in cloud-based database environments Participate in on-call rotation and major incident management support Ability to work in EST time zone Required Technical Skills Database platforms: Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Cosmos DB, and PostgreSQL Database Administration & Operations Database installation, configuration, and patching Backup, restore, and recovery management High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) setup and support Performance tuning and query optimization Index management and statistics maintenance Replication configuration and troubleshooting Capacity planning and database growth management Database security, access control (RBAC), login management, and auditing Database security, RBAC, login management, and auditing Automation & DevOps PowerShell scripting and automation Python scripting for operational automation Azure DevOps pipelines and deployment support Azure Automation Runbooks Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts Ansible for configuration management and automation Monitoring & Observability SQL Sentry / SentryOne monitoring Dynatrace observability and ing Database health monitoring and reporting Blocking, deadlock, and replication latency monitoring Operating Systems & Infrastructure Windows Server administration, Basic Linux administration Azure infrastructure services including Virtual Machines, Storage, Networking, firewall, IIS Programming & Troubleshooting Basic .NET stack awareness for application troubleshooting Cross-technology troubleshooting capabilities Operational scripting and automation development Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ownership mindset with focus on reliability and operational excellence Ability to handle production incidents calmly and effectively Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills Willingness to mentor junior engineers and share operational best practices Ability to work in Agile / DevOps / SRE-driven environments \ Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills Experience supporting enterprise financial/payment .
