Plastics & Chemicals Procurement Trader Location: Mumbai, India Reporting To: Country Head India Job Overview The role will be responsible for developing and managing competitive supply sources for plastics, polymers, and chemicals across India and neighbouring Asian markets. The position will focus on maintaining strong relationships with existing suppliers, identifying and developing new suppliers, exploring new product and market opportunities, and supporting international trading activities. The role will also work closely with regional and international offices to share market intelligence, coordinate shipments, develop business opportunities, and support sales growth. The position requires a proactive, commercially driven professional with strong knowledge of plastics/raw material sourcing and international trading. Frequent travel within India and overseas will be required to meet suppliers and customers and attend relevant industry exhibitions and trade shows. Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers and competitive sourcing opportunities. Manage existing supplier relationships and ensure continuous availability of competitive supply sources. Conduct market research to identify new products, suppliers, customers, and business opportunities. Monitor market trends, competitor activities, pricing movements, and developments within the plastics and chemicals industry. Understand customer buying cycles and identify opportunities to promote relevant products and supply solutions. Support and conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers and customers as required. Coordinate with international/regional offices on sourcing, market development, sales opportunities, and shipment execution. Follow up on customer enquiries and coordinate internally to ensure timely responses and fulfilment. Coordinate with shipping/logistics teams on shipment status, documentation, and delivery requirements. Ensure appropriate follow-up on shipping documentation and international trade procedures. Maintain accurate and updated supplier and market databases. Prepare regular/monthly reports covering business development opportunities, enquiries, supplier developments, market intelligence, and other relevant commercial information. Support risk assessment by providing timely information on suppliers, markets, customers, and ongoing transactions. Participate in local and regional packaging, plastics, polymers, and chemical industry exhibitions and trade shows. Travel frequently to meet suppliers, customers, business partners, and regional/international offices as required. Support dispute resolution and assist in managing claims or commercial issues arising during transactions. Work closely with relevant internal teams, including finance/accounts and shipping/logistics, to ensure smooth execution of trading transactions. Contribute towards achieving agreed annual sales and business development targets. Candidate Requirements 10+ years of relevant experience in sourcing/procurement of plastic resins or petrochemical products from manufacturers/plants in India and/or overseas markets. Strong exposure to plastics, polymers, PET, PVC, preforms, chemicals, or related raw materials. Experience in raw material trading, international trading, procurement, or commodity sourcing will be preferred. Practical knowledge of Incoterms, international shipping procedures, and trade documentation. Strong understanding of supplier development, commercial negotiations, pricing, and market intelligence. Proven ability to independently identify and develop new suppliers and business opportunities. Willingness and ability to travel extensively within India and internationally. Strong communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills. Self-motivated, proactive, commercially driven, and capable of working independently. Strong analytical and reporting skills. Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Results-oriented approach with the ability to work towards business and sales targets.
