The Position Job description The Senior IT Data Engineer is responsible for leading, designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and robust data pipelines and infrastructure. This role involves independently building ETL/ELT processes, optimizing data storage solutions (such as data warehouses and data lakes), ensuring data quality and reliability, and monitoring data systems. You will collaborate closely with data scientists and analysts to meet their specific data requirements, utilizing strong programming skills in Python or Scala, expert SQL knowledge, and proficiency in big data technologies like Spark. Description of the area Job Responsibilities Scope / (Content Leadership): Leads the design, build, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines. Works independently to execute specific data engineering projects from start to finish. Accountability/Problem Solving: Solves complex data ingestion and processing problems. Optimizes data flows and actively enhances overall system performance. Stakeholder Management: Engages directly with broader business units and data scientists to thoroughly understand and meet their data needs. Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Impact/Strategy: Handles big-sized data engineering projects. Implements robust strategies that significantly improve the organization's data infrastructure. Complexity / (Product Size): Manages complex, large-scale data systems. Integrates multiple diverse data sources and ensures efficient, reliable data flow across platforms. Qualifications Technical Skills AI/LLM Infrastructure: Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, Chroma), and agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, and CrewAI. Data Architecture: Proficiency in Data Mesh concepts, decentralized data architectures, semantic data modeling, knowledge graphs, and ontologies. Data Quality & Observability: Ability to implement automated profiling, data lineage tracking, and anomaly detection using frameworks like Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, or dbt. Experience & Domain Knowledge Clinical Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of Clinical Trial Execution (CTE) workflows and operational data systems, specifically CTMS, EDC, and Interactive Response Technology (IxRS). Data Product Management: Experience designing and managing the lifecycle of reusable data products, including setting SLAs, creating documentation, and ensuring compliance with GxP standards. Stakeholder Management: Proven track record in product-led agile teams, translating business requirements from clinical operators into technical data specifications and communicating complex AI readiness concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
