Freelance Alt-Text Subject Matter Expert (SME) Overview Editage, the flagship brand of CACTUS, is building a global pool of Freelance Alt-Text Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to review and validate AI-generated alt-text descriptions for scientific images in STM (Scientific, Technical, Medical) publications. WHAT YOU WILL DO - Review AI-generated alt-text for scientific accuracy and technical precision - Ensure descriptions are concise, objective, and accessibility-compliant (max 200 characters for short alt-text) - Maintain consistency across similar images within assigned articles - Handle complex content including equations, tables, and medical images - Meet same-day turnaround requirements Qualifications and Prerequisites - Degree (Bachelors, Master's, PhD, or equivalent) in relevant scientific, technical and medical domain - Strong attention to detail and scientific accuracy - Ability to write clear, concise descriptions - Experience with scientific literature - Ability to work under pressure and deliver against tight deadline - Reliable internet and modern web browser - Academic editing experience (preferred) - Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) (preferred) Subject Area Expertise in one or more of the following domains: Medicine (Cardiology | Surgery | Oncology | Neurology etc.) | Nursing, Dentistry, Veterinary, Health Professions | Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics | Engineering (Aerospace, Biomedical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical etc.) | Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science | Life Sciences (Biochemistry | Genetics | Molecular Biology) | Immunology and Microbiology | Neuroscience | Earth and Planetary Sciences | Energy | Environmental Science | Materials Science | Mathematics | Physics and Astronomy | Arts and Humanities | Business | Management and Accounting | Decision Sciences | Economics | Econometrics and Finance | Psychology | Social Sciences.
