About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant Project & Financial Operations to manage accounting and financial operations for the company's Canadian and U.S. business operations. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting, AP/AR, bookkeeping, project accounting, contract-based billing, reconciliations, multicurrency accounting and financial reporting. The candidate will work closely with leadership, project managers, vendors, clients and external accounting professionals. Key Responsibilities Financial Operations & Accounting - Manage day-to-day accounting operations for Canadian and U.S. business activities. - Maintain accurate general ledger entries and financial records. - Manage AP, AR, expense coding and account reconciliations. - Perform CAD and USD bank and credit-card reconciliations. - Support month-end and year-end closing activities. - Maintain organized financial documentation and supporting schedules. - Develop and maintain financial templates, schedules and reporting tools. - Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, accuracy and efficiency. Contract-Based Invoicing, AP & AR - Manage client invoicing based on contracts, SOWs, purchase orders and project timelines. - Prepare and issue accurate client invoices with supporting documentation. - Track deposits, progress payments, milestones and final reconciliations. - Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments. - Coordinate vendor and contractor payments according to approved schedules. - Track billing requirements, payment deadlines and vendor commitments. - Identify and escalate billing, documentation or payment discrepancies. Project Accounting & Reporting - Track client funding, project revenue, vendor costs and project-related expenses. - Code revenue, expenses and labour by client, project and cost category. - Maintain project budgets, payment registers and commitment schedules. - Prepare recurring client/project account reconciliations. - Support project budget reporting, forecasting and post-project financial reconciliation. - Support management reporting and project profitability analysis. - Work with project managers to monitor project costs, commitments and anticipated expenses. Canadian & U.S. Accounting - Maintain accounting records for Canadian and U.S. operations. - Support GST/HST reporting and payroll documentation. - Maintain applicable Canadian and U.S. vendor tax documentation. - Support intercompany reconciliations. - Coordinate with external Canadian and U.S. accounting professionals. Time & Labour Reconciliation - Monitor employee and contractor time submissions across projects. - Ensure hours are accurately coded to the relevant project, client and role. - Reconcile approved hours against contractor invoices, employee records and project budgets. - Prepare labour summaries to support client invoicing, contractor payments and project reporting. Requirements - 5-10 years of relevant accounting experience. - Strong experience in full-cycle accounting/bookkeeping. - Hands-on experience with AP, AR, GL and reconciliations. - Experience in U.S. and/or Canadian accounting. - Experience with project accounting or project-based financial operations. - Experience with contract, milestone or project-based invoicing. - Exposure to CAD/USD and multicurrency accounting. - Knowledge of GST/HST will be preferred. - Robust Excel/Google Sheets skills. - Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, NetSuite, Dynamics or similar. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. - Ability to work independently and coordinate with clients, vendors, project managers and external accounting partners. Preferred Candidate Background Candidates with experience in skilled services, consulting, project-based businesses, agencies, event management, accounting outsourcing/BPO or similar environments will be preferred. .
