A well-reputed conglomerate is looking to hire Senior Legal Counsel (Maritime Law) with 10-12 years of experience for their Mumbai office. Candidate must have experience in end-to-end handling of shipping claims, including Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Freight, Demurrage and Defence (FD&D), Hull & Machinery (H&M), and cargo-related claims. Manages the full claims lifecycle from inception and handling to adjustments, negotiations, and settlement, working closely with third-party claimants, insurers, P&I Clubs, surveyors, lawyers, and other stakeholders. Reviews and negotiates contracts, Charterparty clauses, settlement agreements, and releases, while also managing insurance renewals and policy administration. Oversees MIS data management, reporting, and streamlining of claims information for internal stakeholders. Additionally, provides sanctions and compliance-related advice, conducts sanctions checks, and ensures regulatory updates are communicated across the organization. Also led a diverse team of maritime lawyers to handle a wide array of shipping disputes and has specialized expertise in container ship operations, including navigation, cargo operations, voyage planning, safety drills, and emergency preparedness. Key Requirements: Advise on admiralty, maritime laws, ship arrests, marine claims, and international conventions. Work with P&I Clubs, shipowners, charterers, insurers, port authorities, DG Shipping, and customs. Support on cross-border transactions, marine insurance, port operations, and regulatory compliance. Preferred Background: Indian-qualified lawyer with LL.B. and optionally LL.M. (maritime law specialization preferred) Experience at a top-tier law firm, specialist maritime law firm, or in-house shipping/logistics company Memberships in maritime law associations (e.g. CMI, Indian Maritime Law Association) will be valued.
