Legal - Head (In-house)

Position: Group Legal Head (Corporate) Location: Head Office, Kolkata / willing to relocate to Kolkata Reporting To: Group CFO Position Overview The Corporate Legal Head will lead the legal function of a diversified manufacturing group, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and risk management across all business verticals. The role demands a professional with extensive experience in corporate law, contracts, litigation, and regulatory affairs, ideally gained at a renowned legal firm or in a comparable corporate environment. Key Responsibilities Strategic Legal AdvisoryProvide legal counsel to the Group CFO, Board, and senior management on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.Advise on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions.Contracts & DocumentationDraft, review, and negotiate complex contracts including vendor agreements, supply chain contracts, technology licensing, and international trade documentation.Ensure standardization of legal templates and enforce contract management best practices.Compliance & GovernanceOversee compliance with Companies Act, Govt. regulations, labor laws, environmental laws, and other statutory requirements relevant to manufacturing operations.Establish and monitor internal compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.Litigation & Dispute ResolutionManage litigation strategy, liaise with external counsel, and oversee resolution of disputes across civil, commercial, and labor matters.Represent the company in regulatory hearings and arbitration proceedings.Risk ManagementIdentify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies aligned with business objectives.Conduct due diligence for new projects, investments, and partnerships.Leadership & CollaborationBuild and lead an in-house legal team, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.Collaborate with finance, HR, operations, and business units to ensure legal alignment with corporate strategy.Qualifications & Experience LLB/LLM from a reputed institution; additional certifications in corporate or commercial law preferred.18+ years of progressive legal experience, with significant tenure at a renowned legal firm or in a corporate legal leadership role.Strong expertise in corporate law, contracts, compliance, and litigation management.Proven ability to handle complex, multi-jurisdictional legal matters.Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills. .
