Job Description About the Role We are looking for a Software Engineering Mentor who can guide students in building real, end-to-end projects and becoming industry-ready professionals. This is primarily a mentoring and technical guidance role you'll spend most of your time coaching, reviewing, and unblocking students. Alongside this, you'll build quick proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and prototypes for internal ideas, teaching demonstrations, or emerging tools rather than owning full production development. Key Responsibilities 1. Student Mentoring & Technical Guidance (Primary Focus) Guide students in building end-to-end projects using modern software development practices. Conduct technical mentoring sessions, project reviews, and mock interviews to help students improve their coding, problem-solving, and communication skills. Provide structured technical guidance that enables students to become industry-ready software professionals. Help students strengthen their logical thinking, debugging abilities, and engineering mindset through practical learning. Monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and recommend personalized improvement strategies. 2. Proof-of-Concept & Prototype Development (Supporting Focus) Build quick proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and demos to illustrate ideas, evaluate feasibility, or support teaching not full production builds. Leverage modern AI-assisted development platforms to rapidly prototype and validate concepts. Translate ideas and operational challenges into small working demonstrations that communicate the art of the possible. Use these PoCs as living teaching material to show students how real-world engineering decisions are made. 3. Events & Cross-Team Collaboration Support the planning and execution of hackathons, AI summits, workshops, and coding competitions. Collaborate with placement and academic teams to understand evolving industry expectations and help students align with current hiring standards. Contribute to technical documentation, learning resources, internal knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices. Continuously explore emerging technologies, AI tools, automation platforms, and innovative development practices to bring fresh, relevant examples into mentorship. What We're Looking For Strong curiosity and enjoys solving meaningful technical problems. Loves learning, building, and experimenting with emerging technologies. Thinks beyond assigned tasks and proactively identifies opportunities for improvement. Enjoys collaborating with people and communicating technical ideas clearly. Growth mindset with a habit of continuous self-learning. Comfortable taking ownership and delivering high-quality outcomes. Enjoys mentoring others and celebrating their success. Believes technology should simplify processes and create meaningful impact. Thrives in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. 144,883 engineer jobs are open right now

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

144.883Jobs

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
