CNA Insurance is a leading provider in the insurance industry, seeking an Underwriter for Management Liability. The role involves underwriting risks, determining acceptability, recommending pricing modifications, and maintaining positive relationships with agencies and brokers.ResponsibilitiesReviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring moderate technical underwriting skillsDetermines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standardsRecommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situationsPrepares quotes and answers questions from agencies, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessaryPrepares written communication on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinationsVerbally notifies agents of decisions where appropriate in order to ensure clear understanding of the decisionAnalyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepares reports for management reviewMay assist in marketing products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community and makes field visitsDevelops and maintains positive agency and/or broker relationships to ensure positive outcomesKeeps current on state/territory issues, regulations and trendsWorks with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handlingDevelop proficiency in all relevant CNA systemsAlso, may update the underwriting systemsSkillsKnowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practicesDeveloping technical expertise and negotiation skillsStrong interpersonal and communication skills.
