Senior Legal Associate Litigation Location: Chennai | Experience: 37 years | Type: Full-time About the role We are looking for a Senior Legal Associate to handle our non-IPR litigation practice. This is a court-facing role. You will be appearing before City Civil Courts, District Courts, the High Court of Madras, RERA, Consumer Commissions, Commercial Courts and arbitral tribunals, and you will own your matters from the first notice to the final order. This is not a research-desk position and it is not an IPR position. If you enjoy being in court, drafting your own pleadings and arguing your own matters, this role is built for you. What you will be doing Appearing and arguing before civil courts, consumer forums, commercial courts and arbitral tribunals in Chennai and, where required, outstation. Drafting plaints, written statements, interlocutory applications, appeals, revisions, statements of claim, statements of defence and rejoinders independently Handling domestic arbitrations end to end, including Section 9, Section 17, Section 34 and Section 37 proceedings under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 Handling consumer complaints, recovery suits, commercial disputes, contractual disputes, cheque dishonour matters and execution proceedings Issuing and replying to legal notices, and advising clients on strategy, risk and settlement options Managing your own cause list, briefing seniors where needed, and keeping clients updated on progress Guiding junior associates and interns on drafting and court procedure Who we are looking for 3 to 7 years of active litigation practice after enrolment, with genuine court attendance (not only paperwork) Enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, or eligible to transfer enrolment Able to draft independently, without a template being handed to you Comfortable standing up and arguing a matter on your own, including at admission and interim stages Sound working knowledge of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, the Indian Evidence Act (now the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023), the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the Commercial Courts Act, 2015, the Specific Relief Act, 1963 and the Limitation Act, 1963 Fluent in English and Tamil, both spoken and written Someone who wants to move up, take ownership of matters and grow into a leadership position within the firm What matters is your civil and commercial litigation background.
