Secondary Mathematics and Science Learning Area Coordinator - Full Time (1.0FTE) Reports to: College Principal / Deputy Principal (Secondary) EBA/Award: Dale Christian College employment agreement and/or the Educational Services (Teachers) Award Employment Type: Full Time / Permanent – Teaching and Learning Area Leadership Dale Christian College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Mathematics and Science Learning Area Coordinator to join our K–12 College in an ongoing role commencing January 2027. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Deputy Principal (Secondary), Dean of Curriculum & Students (Secondary), other LACs, colleagues and support staff to deliver high-quality Christian education and contribute positively to the academic, pastoral and cultural life of the College. About This Role: This position combines Secondary teaching with responsibility for leading the College’s Mathematics and Science Learning Areas across Years 7–12. The successful applicant will teach Mathematics and/or Science according to qualifications, experience and College needs, while providing curriculum, pedagogical and instructional leadership across both learning areas. The role requires strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum in Mathematics and/or Science, together with an understanding of Senior Secondary and SCSA requirements. Experience teaching WACE courses will be highly regarded, particularly ATAR Mathematics Applications, ATAR Mathematics Methods and/or Senior Secondary Science is desirable. The role focuses on curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, moderation, staff development, student achievement and the continued development of coherent Mathematics and Science pathways across Years 7–12. Key Responsibilities Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, engaging Mathematics and/or Science learning experiences aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and, where applicable, SCSA WACE course requirements. Develop students’ mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning and problem-solving and/or their scientific knowledge, inquiry skills, critical thinking and capacity to investigate and apply scientific concepts. Use evidence-informed teaching strategies, explicit instruction, differentiation and appropriate digital technologies to meet diverse learning needs and support student engagement and achievement. Assess, record and report on student achievement, providing timely and constructive feedback and using student achievement data to inform teaching, intervention, extension and program improvement. Maintain positive, well-managed and inclusive classroom environments in which students are appropriately challenged and supported. Where teaching Science, ensure practical activities are appropriately planned, supervised and conducted in accordance with college procedures and relevant safety requirements. Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff, and participate fully in staff meetings, professional learning, College events, pastoral or Homeroom responsibilities, playground and relief duties, and other reasonable responsibilities associated with the role. Learning Area Coordinator Responsibilities – Mathematics and Science Provide strategic, curriculum and instructional leadership for Mathematics and Science across Years 7–12 and establish a clear direction for the continued development of both learning areas. Develop and maintain coherent Years 7–12 curriculum pathways, scope and sequence documents, assessment schedules, common standards and moderation processes aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and SCSA requirements. Lead the review and development of Mathematics and Science programs to ensure they are rigorous, engaging, inclusive and responsive to student needs while remaining aligned with the College’s Christian ethos. Coordinate Learning Area meetings, priorities, documentation and communication, and represent Mathematics & Science in relevant Secondary curriculum and leadership discussions. Support and develop staff through collaborative planning, mentoring, resource sharing, professional learning and clear expectations for curriculum delivery, assessment, feedback and student management. Contribute to the induction, professional growth and development of Mathematics and Science staff in consultation with Secondary Leadership. Monitor student achievement, participation and pathway data, including relevant internal and external assessment and WACE data, identify improvement priorities and develop appropriate strategies for intervention, extension and increased achievement. Oversee assessment design, moderation and reporting processes to promote consistency of teacher judgement and appropriate academic standards across Mathematics and Science. Support appropriate Senior Secondary subject selection and pathway development, providing advice regarding course prerequisites, student suitability and progression where required. Oversee Learning Area budgets, textbooks, digital resources, subscriptions, Science equipment and other specialist resources in consultation with College Leadership, ensuring resources are educationally justified, appropriately maintained and used effectively. Provide oversight of science practical-learning requirements, including appropriate laboratory procedures, risk management, chemical and equipment management and safe practical practices in collaboration with relevant teaching and support staff. Maintain current knowledge of curriculum developments, SCSA requirements, contemporary Mathematics and Science pedagogy and relevant educational research. Build appropriate external opportunities and networks, including competitions, enrichment activities, tertiary connections and other experiences where these support student learning and future pathways. Contribute professional advice to College Leadership regarding staffing, staff development, timetable structures, subject offerings, facilities, resources and longer-term planning for Mathematics and Science. Contribute, where appropriate, to the recruitment, induction and professional development of staff within the Learning Area in consultation with College Leadership. Keep Secondary Leadership appropriately informed of significant curriculum, student achievement, staffing, resource or safety matters arising within the Learning Area. Selection Criteria Applicants must: Demonstrate a personal commitment to Christian education and a willingness to support the values, ethos and mission of Dale Christian College. Possess recognised and appropriate teaching qualifications suitable for teaching Secondary Mathematics and/or Science in a Western Australian school. Demonstrate strong knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum in Mathematics and/or Science, together with contemporary, evidence-informed pedagogy appropriate for Secondary students. Demonstrate experience and capability in teaching across the Secondary years; experience with WACE Mathematics and/or Senior Secondary Science courses will be highly regarded. Demonstrate strong skills in curriculum planning, explicit instruction, differentiation, classroom management, assessment, moderation, feedback and the use of student achievement data. Demonstrate leadership capacity, including strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; the ability to establish systems and priorities; build staff capability; lead curriculum development; and work collaboratively with colleagues and College Leadership. Demonstrate the capacity to develop coherent Years 7–12 pathways, monitor student progress and promote high levels of engagement and achievement in Mathematics and Science. Demonstrate the ability to lead assessment and moderation processes and support staff in maintaining consistent curriculum and academic expectations. Demonstrate the ability to manage Learning Area resources and budgets responsibly, including Science equipment and practical-learning requirements. Demonstrate sound understanding of SCSA requirements and, where applicable, Senior Secondary/WACE course requirements. Demonstrate the capacity to provide appropriate leadership in relation to safe Science practical learning, risk management and the effective use of specialist facilities and equipment. * Previous experience in a Learning Area Coordinator, Head of Department or similar curriculum leadership role will be highly regarded, although suitably experienced teachers demonstrating clear leadership capacity are encouraged to apply.
