About the role Rubbish Direct is looking for a Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Mechanic to help maintain and repair our fleet of Isuzu rubbish trucks. This isn’t just a role where you change parts and move on. We want someone who takes pride in diagnosing problems properly, preventing breakdowns and keeping our fleet safe, reliable and ready to work. Our promise to customers is simple: rubbish collection they do not have to chase. Our drivers make that promise real on the road. Our workshop helps keep that promise moving. It’s a hands-on role in a busy waste collection operation where our trucks work hard every day. When a truck is off the road, it impacts the driver, the run, the customer and the wider team. That’s why good maintenance matters. We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of prevention, safety, attention to detail and doing the job properly. What you'll be doing Service, maintain and repair our fleet of Isuzu rubbish trucks Diagnose faults and fix them properly Carry out preventative maintenance, inspections and pre-COF checks Work across diesel, brakes, suspension, driveline, hydraulics and auto electrical Maintain compactors, truck equipment and related plant Respond to breakdowns and urgent repairs when required Working closely with drivers and operations staff to identify issues early and minimise downtime What we offer Stable full-time work with an established West Auckland based company A fleet-based role where you get to know the trucks properly Variety across servicing, repairs, diagnostics, hydraulics and fleet maintenance Daily meals provided Profit share after eligibility criteria are met Southern Cross health insurance after eligibility Long-service rewards Staff welfare support A company that values people who work hard and do the job properly A team where good tradespeople are valued, not treated like a number When the business does well, our people share in that success. Pay: $42–$48 per hour, depending on experience. Higher rate negotiable for the right person with strong heavy diesel, hydraulics, auto electrical and fleet maintenance experience. What we are looking for Diesel mechanic / heavy vehicle mechanic experience and the right to work in New Zealand Fault-finding and diagnostic ability Experience working on heavy trucks, ideally Isuzu Solid knowledge across servicing, brakes, suspension and driveline Knowledge of auto electrics and hydraulics, with the ability to troubleshoot and learn where needed Practical, hands-on all-rounder who can work independently Takes pride in their workmanship and works safely Reliable, organised and communicates well with the wider team Experience with waste trucks, compactors, bin lifters, hydraulic equipment or fleet maintenance would be an advantage. However, we are more interested in someone with the right attitude, strong mechanical ability and a willingness to learn the specific equipment we operate.
