We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Law Graduate to join our family law team and work closely with a Director who is dedicated to family law. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate who knows they want to develop their career in family law and is looking for genuine hands-on experience, mentoring and responsibility from the beginning of their legal career. Rather than being one graduate among many, you will work closely with the Director and become an integral part of the family law team. You will have the opportunity to observe, learn and progressively take responsibility for family law matters as your skills and confidence develop. About Us We are a progressive and growing legal practice with dedicated teams across family, property and commercial law. Our practice prides itself on creating an easy-going, welcoming environment where people feel supported and valued. Our culture is built around transparency, growth and accountability. We genuinely invest in our people and want to see our team members develop their skills and build long-term careers with us. We believe the best way to develop a graduate is through a combination of hands-on experience, quality supervision and exposure to experienced practitioners. While this position will have a strong focus on family law, we also believe in developing well-rounded lawyers. As part of your training and development, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in residential conveyancing, giving you exposure to another area of law and developing your understanding of property transactions and the broader legal practice. The Role Working closely with our Family Law Director, you will gain practical experience across a broad range of family law matters. Your responsibilities will progressively include: Assisting with family law matters from commencement through to resolution; Conducting legal research and assisting with the preparation of advice; Drafting correspondence, court documents and other legal documents; Preparing briefs, affidavits and other court materials; Assisting with preparation for court appearances and conferences; Attending client meetings and taking instructions; Communicating with clients, solicitors, barristers and other stakeholders; Assisting with negotiations and dispute resolution; Managing matter workflows, deadlines and critical dates; Maintaining accurate and compliant file management; Developing an understanding of the practical aspects of running family law matters; and Receiving training and exposure to residential conveyancing as part of your broader professional development. As your experience develops, you will be given increasing responsibility for your own work and matters, with appropriate supervision and guidance. About You We are looking for a Law Graduate who is genuinely interested in building a long-term career in family law. You will ideally have: Completed, or be close to completing, your Bachelor of Laws; A genuine interest in family law and a desire to develop your career in this area; Strong academic results; Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Strong attention to detail; The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively; A willingness to learn, take feedback and continually develop; and A professional and mature approach to dealing with sensitive and often complex client matters. Previous experience in family law is desirable but not essential. We are looking for someone with the ability, attitude and genuine desire to become a family lawyer. Life in Mackay Located in the heart of tropical North Queensland, Mackay offers a laid-back lifestyle with access to beautiful beaches, the stunning Whitsunday Islands and national parks just a short drive away. The region is perfect for those who enjoy a mix of outdoor adventure and relaxed living, with easy access to Brisbane through daily direct flights.
