Senior Fabricator and Welder This is not a training position We are looking for a highly experienced fabricator and welder to join our team at NMI. This role is suited to someone who can work independently, take full ownership of their work, and deliver a consistently high standard without supervision. About the Role You will be involved in the fabrication and installation of custom steel projects including architectural handrails and balustrades, structural steel, decorative work, and one-off builds. Our work is varied and hands-on, and you will be expected to see jobs through from the workshop to site, as we install most of what we fabricate. This is a senior role for someone who knows their trade, reads drawings confidently, and takes pride in producing clean, accurate, and professional work. What We Offer Pay: Up to $40 per hour, based on skill and experience Tool Allowance: 40 cents per hour Birthday Leave: Paid day off on your birthday Tools: Full Hilti power tool kit provided for job-related work Bonuses: Performance-based incentives Team Culture: A straight-up, supportive team that values quality, reliability, and accountability Project Variety: No repetitive production work, every job is different Essential Requirements Minimum 5 years’ experience in medium to heavy fabrication and welding Strong MIG, TIG, and stick welding skills Ability to read and work from engineering drawings without assistance Proven experience in structural steel fabrication and erection Willingness and ability to attend site and carry out installations Full, clean NZ driver’s licence Highly Valued Skill Experience in stainless steel fabrication is a strong advantage. This includes architectural and decorative stainless work such as handrails, balustrades, heavy plate, and pipe, with a high standard of visible finishes including brushed, polished, and mirror. While not essential, this skill will set you apart. Nice to Have Rigging experience Class 2 driver’s licence Conditions of Employment Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete a weld and fabrication test and pass a pre-employment drug test. Safety, quality, and professionalism are non-negotiable. Location Our workshop is based in Kamo, Whangārei, servicing projects across the upper North Island.
