About the role The Woodwork Specialist is a hands-on role leading Forté's NZ manufacturing operation, and is responsible for producing accessories (stair nosings, skirtings, etc), showroom & display panels, samples and other prototype custom requests from Forte timber products to a consistently high standard. The role assumes full responsibility for local NZ woodworking and manages all manufacturing requirements across the workshop, from set up and machine operation through to the finished products. Key responsibilities Manufacture stair nosings from stocked flooring products to production requirements Produce panels and other point of sale displays for showrooms and customers as required Oversee the product sampling process, including cutting and labelling product and preparing customer samples Set up and maintain woodworking machines to best possible standards, following production requests and running machines to their full potential Product R&D and Prototype sample requests for new product and accessory development as required Discuss the weekly production schedule with the Operations Manager, ensuring orders are completed on time and to a high standard every time Create and understand/interpret technical drawings (Sketchup or CAD) to ensure precise crafting of components Inspect workpieces for defects or imperfections, making necessary adjustments to meet quality standards Regularly maintain woodworking tools and machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety Maintain an organised and clean working environment, adhering to safety protocols at all times About you Experience and genuine passion for working with timber Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work directly with trade professionals Familiarity with building codes, technical specifications and compliance requirements Proven experience with product testing and performance evaluation Knowledge of safety regulations and experience working in a safe manufacturing environment Experience in the timber, building products, flooring or wholesale distribution sector (preferred) Proven experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and production plans (preferred) Previous experience producing custom or made to order pieces from client specifications (preferred)
