Summer Students / Summer Interns (Parks & Recreation)

Job Description We're looking for enthusiastic, reliable and motivated students to join our Parks & Recreation team over the summer period. If you enjoy working outdoors, being physically active, and contributing to the appearance and enjoyment of local parks and recreational spaces, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning over the summer break. As a member of our Parks & Recreation team, you'll assist with maintaining parks, reserves, gardens, sports fields, and public spaces across the district. You'll work alongside experienced team members, learn practical skills and play a key role in helping keep our community looking its best during the busy summer season. Job Requirements A positive attitude and willingness to learn Enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual work Strong reliability and punctuality The ability to work well as part of a team Good communication skills and a commitment to health and safety Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand. Beneficial to have an interest in gardening. A full driver’s license Job Responsibilities Assist with the maintenance of parks, reserves, gardens, and recreational areas Help with planting, weeding, watering, and general garden upkeep Operate basic hand tools and equipment safely Undertake general labouring and outdoor maintenance tasks Work as part of a team to deliver high-quality public spaces Follow health and safety procedures at all times Provide a positive and professional representation of Council in the community Maintain Gores Annual Bedding Displays Job Benefits At Gore District Council, we're proud to serve our community and create an environment where people can thrive.
