Associate Professor/Professor in Structural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Academic Division Reference number: 26462 Term: Ongoing, full-time basis Remuneration: LEVD: $202,974 to $223,630 pa (LEVD) (inclusive of $171,515 to $188,970 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading); or LEVE: $261,475 pa (LEVE) (inclusive of $220,950 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading). We are seeking a Associate Professor/Professor in Structural Engineering to join School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty of Engineering has an exciting new position for a Capacity Building Associate Professor/Professor in Structural Engineering. This position will lead strategic opportunities for research and teaching in structural engineering at QUT— leveraging and growing connections across academia, industry and government. Your experience should demonstrate an ability to bridge the gap between fundamental research and industry implementation, as evidenced by high quality publications, research projects and successful grants. An outstanding track record in teaching structural engineering within a university setting is also required. What you need to succeed Completion of a doctoral qualification in civil engineering, environmental engineering fields or closely related field. Demonstrate record of outstanding research leadership in the field of structural engineering, including internationally recognised track record of external grants, and research outputs in top tier journals. Proven track record of Higher Education teaching (e.g. evidence of high level of student satisfaction). Demonstrated track record of engagement and collaborations with industry, government, and community. Demonstrated experience in learning and teaching, including innovative curriculum design, face to face and online delivery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Demonstrated strategic approach, as well as the ability to be adaptive and future-focused to deliver real impact. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
