About the role We are looking for an experienced and trade-qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic to step into a hands-on Workshop Supervisor position. Working closely with the Service Manager, you will play a critical role in coordinating day-to-day workshop activities, supporting technicians and apprentices, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will combine your technical expertise with strong people and organisational skills to maximise workshop productivity, support customer requirements and drive continuous improvement. Key responsibilities Coordinating daily workshop activities to ensure safe, efficient and productive outcomes Allocating work and helping manage workflow, priorities and workshop productivity Supporting and mentoring technicians and apprentices through on-the-job coaching and guidance Working alongside technicians and using shared knowledge and problem-solving skills to work through technical issues Assisting with diagnostics, repairs and technical support when required Planning jobs, monitoring progress and assisting with estimates, quotations and invoicing Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records Ensuring quality assurance requirements, safety standards and operating procedures are consistently maintained Promoting and maintaining strong Health and Safety practices Liaising with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver excellent service outcomes About you NZQA, or equivalent, qualification as a Diesel Technician / Mechanic Eligibility to work in New Zealand Strong heavy diesel workshop experience, preferably with truck and bus repairs Experience with diagnostics and modern commercial vehicle systems Previous supervisory, leading hand or foreman experience, or the capability and attitude to step into this type of role A positive, practical and solutions-focused approach Pride in quality workmanship and strong attention to detail Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with customers, staff and suppliers Good organisational skills and the ability to keep work flowing in a busy workshop An active and constructive approach to Health and Safety About us Queenstown Commercial Vehicle Services Ltd (QCVS) is a privately owned and operated business with a history of well over 30 years. QCVS services and repairs all makes and models of truck and bus, and has relationships with Volvo, Scania, Isuzu and MAN, providing access to diagnostics, technical support and training across a wide variety of heavy commercial vehicles. QCVS is a single branch, small, close-knit team of around 10–12 people with an ongoing apprentice programme to keep talent coming through, give back to the industry and support the future of heavy vehicle servicing in the region.
