Turner / Machinist www.alloybearings.com Location: Wellsford, Auckland Remuneration: Competitive remuneration Flexible working hours + plenty of overtime available Permanent role with technical support from highly experienced team Summary: Alloy Bearings is a rapidly growing business which creates ongoing opportunities for career development and new challenges in New Zealand and offshore. If you're ready to take on a challenging yet rewarding role at the heart of Alloy Bearings, contributing to our specialist reputation for excellence we would love to hear from you. About Alloy Bearings: Alloy Bearings aspiration is to be market leader and the recognised go to specialists for hydrodynamic (whitemetal / babbitt) bearings across selected market sectors internationally. Alloy Bearings is a rapidly growing, 4th generation family business, with a reputation for quality and dependability. We bring decades of specialist experience and knowledge to plain bearing issues. This includes condition and failure assessment, through to refurbishment, manufacture, replacement, and upgrade solutions. Our bearings support critical rotating machinery (such as large turbines and turbomachinery) for corporate and government clients all over the place. The Back Story: Our story began with Harold Wallace, who became Chief Engineer at Teal Airways (later Air New Zealand) and armed with two decades of aircraft expertise, laid the foundation for what would become a leading name in the bearing industry. Since then, Alloy Bearings has always been part of a larger reconditioning business anchored by a reputation for quality and dependability. In 2017 and again in 2021 we bought our main competitors in New Zealand and Australia respectively and divested the other parts of the business. This focus and specialisation in Alloy Bearings has resulted in rapid but sustainable growth with business throughout Australasia, SE Asia and further afield. What you’ll do: The current employees and management have an impeccable reputation for quality with a focus on 100% positive feedback. The main purpose of the role is to boost our machine shop team with delivering a high level of quality and customer service experience and safeguard our policy of 100% positive customer feedback. The role includes preparation, proof, and final machining, and finishing of bearings, inwards and outwards inspection, measurement, and recording data relating to the work conducted. Virtually every bearing that you’ll work on is different! Your qualifications: Ideally you must have an apprenticeship, trade certificate or NZQA Level 4 qualification in Machining/Turning or equivalent. At least 3 years relevant experience on conventional manual lathes and milling machines may substitute if you don’t have a formal qualification. Our preference would be for candidates with post-qualification work experience on conventional manual lathes and milling machines. CNC machining, or welding experience could be an advantage (but not essential), and white metal experience would be highly desirable. Your attributes: Proven, high level of competence with conventional manual machining. Able to read and understand specification documents and complex drawings. High level of attention to detail with accurate machining skills to tight tolerances. Proficient in the use of measuring equipment and carrying out complex measurements. Able to analyse processes and suggest more efficient methods for continuous improvement. Able to plan, schedule, and anticipate in advance special requirements of any tasks allocated and take early proactive steps to ensure delivery dates are met. Problem-solving attitude and always working things out positively. Organised and efficient at data recording and keeping records. Strong adherence to health & safety and quality compliance. Willing to help-out both customers and fellow employees. Positive and self-motivated with a focus on productivity. To apply you will need: To be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or have the appropriate work visa. A clear criminal history. An excellent command of written and spoken English language. To be able to pass a pre-employment drug and medical test. Your own vehicle and a clean full driver's license. To have at least two working references. Excellent numeracy skills. What you can expect: All staff at Alloy Bearings enjoy flexible working hours. Guaranteed 40 hours with available overtime at standard rate This role provides competitive compensation based on the candidate's qualifications and abilities. Full PPE provided and tool allowance if you have your own tools. On the job coaching from highly experienced and supportive team. Suburban location with easy free parking and facilities.
