Experienced Gardener Good Nature Gardens | Christchurch Approx. 30 hours per week Mon-Fri $30 per hour, with opportunity for an increase once ability is demonstrated Hours expected to increase heading into summer About the role Good Nature Gardens is a growing Christchurch gardening and landscaping business, and we're looking for an experienced Gardener to take ownership of our expanding garden maintenance workload. We're looking for someone who already knows their way around a garden and can confidently step into maintenance jobs with minimal supervision. This isn't an entry-level role where you'll need to be taught the basics — you'll need solid practical gardening experience, strong plant knowledge and the confidence to assess what needs doing and get on with the job. You'll work across a wide variety of residential gardens and clients throughout Christchurch, carrying out everything from pruning, weeding and plant care through to general garden tidy-ups and ongoing maintenance. You'll often be working independently, so we're looking for someone reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy who we can confidently send to a client's property knowing the work will be completed to a high standard. Key responsibilities Pruning and training shrubs, hedges, climbers, roses and small trees General garden maintenance, including weeding, deadheading, trimming and garden tidy-ups Identifying common pests, diseases and plant health problems and applying appropriate treatments Understanding plant requirements and maintaining good soil and plant health Safely and confidently operating gardening hand tools, power tools and equipment Assessing gardens and prioritising work efficiently Following instructions from the Director, team and clients while also being capable of working independently Communicating professionally and respectfully with clients Identifying issues or additional work required and communicating these back to the team Maintaining company vehicles, tools and equipment to a high standard Leaving every property clean, tidy and professionally presented About you We're ideally looking for someone with around 2–3+ years of practical gardening experience , although demonstrated knowledge and ability are more important to us than a specific number of years. You'll need to be someone who genuinely knows gardens. You should be comfortable being sent to a maintenance job independently and knowing how to approach the work without needing constant direction. You'll ideally have: Strong practical gardening and plant knowledge Confidence pruning a range of plants correctly, including roses, shrubs and hedges Knowledge of common garden pests, diseases and appropriate treatments Experience using gardening machinery, hand tools and power tools safely The ability to work efficiently and unsupervised Good judgement and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail A friendly and professional manner with clients The ability to follow instructions and client requests accurately A strong work ethic and pride in the quality of your work Excellent reliability, punctuality and consistent attendance Good physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in a physical role A full driver's licence We welcome applications from candidates on Working Holiday Visas ; however, due to the nature of the role, we require a minimum commitment of 9 months and strong spoken and written English communication skills. Hours & pay This is a full-time role of approximately 30 hours per week across five days , with hours expected to increase as we move into the busier summer season and the business continues to grow. The starting rate is $30 per hour , with the opportunity for this to increase once you've demonstrated your ability in the role.
