Maintenance Technician

Hynds is looking for a skilled, safety-conscious Maintenance Technician to join our team at Canada Crescent. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you'll play a key role in maintaining the availability and reliability of all the mechanical plant on site. It's a genuinely hands-on, varied role - one day you'll be planning scheduled maintenance, the next you'll be fault-finding a breakdown or fabricating a custom solution in the workshop. What You'll Be Doing Planning and executing scheduled and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment Fabrication and welding (Arc, MIG, TIG), including assembly of high-specification production equipment Working the lathe, mill, press and other workshop equipment Fault-finding and root cause analysis to minimise breakdowns and extend plant life Managing mechanical spare parts inventory and the equipment refurbishment process Supporting plant shutdowns and safe machinery isolation Helping develop Standard Operating Procedures and train the operations teams Maintaining high housekeeping and 5S standards Contributing to health and safety, cost control, and continuous improvement What You'll Bring Qualified Mechanical Technician - Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent Proven maintenance fitter experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment Welding experience across MIG, TIG and Arc Experience with conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, chains and drive systems Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems Basic electrical fault-finding and industrial controls Experience with pumps, motors and industrial machinery Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics Strong fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills Familiarity with SOPs, 5S and safe work practices Computer literacy and competent written and verbal English Full NZ Class 1 driver's licence Ability to work day and night shifts as required Physically capable of manual handling up to 20kg, working at heights and in confined spaces Benefits Health insurance (subject to eligibility criteria) Access to company partner discounts Employee Assistance Programme Who We Are Since 1973, Hynds has been New Zealand's leading supplier for water and water-based waste management across civil and rural infrastructure.
