About the role We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic to join the team at Fabrication Maintenance Services in Christchurch, Central Canterbury. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work on a diverse range of mechanical projects and maintenance tasks. As a Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of vehicles and mechanical systems, contributing directly to the quality of service we deliver to our clients. Key responsibilities Diagnose mechanical faults and defects in vehicles and equipment using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks and system inspections Repair and replace faulty components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems and electrical parts WOF inspection Maintain detailed records of all work completed, including labour hours, parts used and service performed Use and maintain workshop equipment and tools in a safe and professional manner Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet project deadlines and customer requirements Adhere to all health and safety regulations and workshop protocols at all times What we're looking for A recognised mechanical qualification in automotive trades. Proven experience working as a mechanic in a professional workshop or fleet maintenance environment Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical and suspension Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools and power tools Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues A valid driver's licence and clean driving record Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Reliable and punctual with excellent communication and teamwork abilities A genuine commitment to health and safety practices in the workplace Experience with fleet maintenance or heavy vehicle servicing would be advantageous About us Fabrication Maintenance Services is a dedicated provider of quality maintenance and mechanical solutions in the Christchurch area.
