Financial Controller

About Cuddon Cuddon Limited is a well-established New Zealand engineering and manufacturing business based in Blenheim, with a strong reputation for practical innovation, quality workmanship and long-term customer relationships. As the business continues to grow and adapt, Cuddon is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join its leadership team and bring clear commercial insight to decision-making across the company. The Opportunity Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller will work closely with the Administration Manager and wider management team. The role will provide financial leadership across management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, project profitability and commercial analysis. This is a hands-on senior finance role with genuine scope to make an impact. It will suit someone who enjoys getting close to the numbers, understanding what drives performance, and working alongside operational teams to improve outcomes. What You’ll Be Doing Finance and reporting · Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and Board reporting. · Lead budgeting, forecasting and annual planning processes. · Develop financial models and business cases to support strategic initiatives. · Coordinate year-end reporting and liaise with external advisors. · Maintain strong financial controls, governance processes and banking compliance. Commercial performance · Enhance reporting on project profitability, margins and business unit performance. · Oversee WIP, profit recognition and project forecasting processes. · Improve project cost tracking and commercial visibility across all divisions. · Partner with operational managers to improve project outcomes and financial performance. · Assist with pricing reviews, charge-out rates and cost recovery methodologies. Process improvement · Lead initiatives that improve finance, administration and operational processes. · Enhance business reporting, dashboards and KPI visibility. · Improve utilisation of Nimbus and other business systems. · Identify automation opportunities and reduce manual processes. · Drive continuous improvement initiatives that support efficiency and profitability. Leadership and business partnering · Work collaboratively across finance, administration and operations. · Provide technical accounting expertise and mentoring where required. · Build strong relationships with managers throughout the business. · Support a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance. About You You will be a capable finance professional who is comfortable operating at both a strategic and practical level. You will enjoy working with people across the business and turning financial information into useful, timely advice. Ideally, you will bring: · CA qualification, or equivalent. · At least 5 years' experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Management Accountant or similar commercial finance role. · Strong management accounting, forecasting and financial reporting capability. · Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills. · Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability. · Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial information into practical business insights. · Proven experience driving process improvement and organisational change. Experience in engineering, manufacturing, contracting or another project-based environment would be an advantage. Exposure to project costing, WIP accounting, ERP systems and banking relationships would also be useful.
