Head of Insurance Digital Transformation

Our client, a leading insurance organisation, is seeking an experienced Head of IT Transformation to lead the delivery of strategic technology transformation initiatives across the enterprise. This role is responsible for shaping and executing the organisation's IT transformation agenda by partnering closely with business and technology stakeholders to modernise systems, improve operational efficiency, and enable future business growth. The organisation is looking for a technology-savvy transformation leader who possesses sufficient technical depth to understand enterprise technologies, challenge solution designs, define appropriate business and technical requirements, and engage credibly with architects, developers, vendors and senior business leaders. While the role is not expected to perform hands-on technical development, it requires someone who can bridge business strategy and technology execution to ensure the right solutions are delivered. Key Responsibilities IT Transformation Strategy Develop and execute the organisation's IT Transformation Roadmap in alignment with business priorities and strategic objectives. Lead enterprise-wide technology transformation programmes that enhance business capability, operational efficiency and customer experience. Identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve business processes, service delivery and organisational effectiveness. Establish transformation priorities and ensure initiatives are aligned across business and technology functions. Strategic Programme Leadership Lead IT transformation programmes from planning through implementation and benefits realisation. Oversee multiple concurrent transformation initiatives, ensuring effective governance, delivery discipline and stakeholder alignment. Manage programme risks, dependencies, budgets, timelines and resource planning. Provide regular updates and recommendations to Executive Management and Steering Committees. Technical Leadership & Solution Enablement Act as the organisation's technology transformation leader by providing informed technical direction across enterprise IT initiatives. Partner with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into clear business and technical requirements. Possess sufficient technical knowledge to evaluate proposed solutions, challenge assumptions and ensure technology decisions are aligned with business needs. Serve as a credible advisor between business leaders and technical teams, facilitating effective communication and decision-making. Ensure technology solutions are scalable, secure, integrated and aligned with enterprise architecture principles. Work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Applications, Digital and Information Security teams to deliver sustainable technology outcomes. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities that strengthen the organisation's competitive position. Business Partnership Collaborate closely with Operations, Distribution, Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Risk, Compliance and other business units to identify technology-enabled improvement opportunities. Ensure business requirements are accurately captured, prioritised and translated into effective technology solutions. Promote collaboration between business and IT to maximise value from transformation investments. Support business leaders in adopting new technologies and ways of working. Governance & Risk Management Establish and maintain governance frameworks for IT transformation programmes. Ensure projects comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies and enterprise technology standards. Monitor programme performance through defined KPIs and benefits realisation metrics. Identify and mitigate delivery, operational and technology risks. Vendor & Partner Management Lead engagements with technology vendors, system integrators and consulting partners. Evaluate technology proposals and implementation approaches to ensure alignment with organisational objectives. Manage vendor performance, contractual deliverables and service quality. Foster strategic partnerships that support long-term technology capability. Change & Transformation Leadership Drive organisational readiness for technology-enabled change. Partner with business leaders and HR to support communication, stakeholder engagement and capability development. Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. Ensure successful adoption of new systems and technology capabilities across the organisation. Leadership Build and lead a high-performing IT Transformation function. Coach and develop programme managers, project managers and transformation professionals. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and delivery excellence. Influence senior stakeholders across the organisation to achieve strategic outcomes. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline. A Master's Degree or MBA will be an advantage. Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum, SAFe or equivalent are desirable. Experience Minimum 15 years of progressive experience within Information Technology, Digital Transformation or Enterprise Transformation. At least 8 years leading large-scale enterprise IT transformation programmes. Experience within the insurance or broader financial services industry is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success delivering complex technology initiatives involving multiple business functions and stakeholders. Experience working with Executive Management, Steering Committees and senior business leaders. Proven ability to lead transformation across complex organisational environments.
