About the role This is a hands-on role based from our South Island branch in Rolleston, supporting the installation, servicing and maintenance of large industrial boiler plant, pressure equipment and associated process plant throughout the South Island. You will work closely with the South Island Branch Manager and act as their 2IC, providing day-to-day support and stepping up to lead the branch and service team when required. The work is varied—one week you could be machining components in the workshop, the next you could be fault-finding on a boiler, leading a shutdown team, repairing pressure equipment or working alongside a major industrial client to get their plant back up and running. Key responsibilities Act as 2IC to the South Island Branch Manager, stepping up and holding the fort when the Branch Manager is off site or unavailable Work closely with the Branch Manager to improve systems, quality, productivity and operational efficiency across the branch Lead by example and help build a strong, capable and safety-focused service team Lead and mentor a small team, allocate work and ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard Carry out mechanical fitting, turning and machining work in the workshop and on client sites Install, maintain, repair and fault-find on industrial boilers, pressure vessels, pumps, valves and associated plant Support planned maintenance, shutdowns and breakdown response Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, weld maps and repair procedures Liaise with inspection bodies, certifying engineers and NDT providers during inspection, repair and certification work Liaise directly with clients on site, understand their requirements, scope work and provide progress updates About you Strong mechanical fitting and turning skills, gained through trade training or equivalent hands-on experience Solid experience as a Fitter Turner, Mechanical Fitter or in a similar heavy industrial mechanical role Experience working with boilers, pressure vessels, steam plant or heavy industrial equipment would be an advantage Good knowledge of pressure equipment and welding requirements in New Zealand The ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, weld maps and repair documentation Experience with, or a good understanding of, inspection and NDT processes Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience — or the ambition and capability to step up into a leadership role Confidence operating lathes, milling machines and general machining equipment Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills A full New Zealand driver's license Benefits A permanent, full-time position with a growing New Zealand engineering company A senior hands-on role with genuine leadership and career development opportunities The opportunity to become an important part of the growth of the South Island operation Varied work across industrial boilers, pressure equipment and process plant Work with major industrial clients and technically challenging equipment Competitive remuneration based on experience Company vehicle, mobile phone and laptop Contribution towards relocation costs, where applicable A supportive, practical and down-to-earth team environment About us Energy Plant Solutions specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of industrial energy and process heat plant.
