DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Accountable for site wide geotechnical risk management and slope performance. Leadership & Team Development Lead and manage the geotechnical team Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical development Set clear priorities aligned with operational and LOM objectives Geotechnical Strategy & Planning Develop and implement site-wide geotechnical strategy Integrate geotechnical constraints into: Pit designs Cutback sequencing Ramp design and access Life of Mine planning and budgets Provide forward-looking guidance on slope performance and geotechnical risks Provide geotechnical input into budget scenarios and operational trade-off decisions Ground Control Management Own and maintain the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) Ensure compliance across all departments Continuously update based on monitoring data, design changes, and site conditions Monitoring & Early Warning Systems Ensure effective slope monitoring systems are in place (e.g. prisms, radar, instrumentation) Drive improvements in monitoring coverage, reliability, and data quality Analyse monitoring data to identify trends and provide early warning of instability Risk Management Identify, assess, and manage geotechnical hazards across the operation Maintain geotechnical hazard maps and risk registers Ensure appropriate controls and TARPs are in place and implemented Lead investigation and reporting of all ground-related incidents and near misses Design & Technical Oversight Lead slope stability assessments and geotechnical design reviews Define and validate slope design parameters and failure mechanisms Review and challenge mine planning assumptions to ensure safe and practical outcomes Provide clear geotechnical recommendations and sign-off on designs, access and operating constraints Hydrogeology & Water Management Ensure groundwater conditions are understood and managed Oversee depressurisation and dewatering strategies Integrate hydrogeological considerations into slope stability assessments Consultants & Contractors Establish and build in-house geotechnical capability, reducing reliance on external consultants. Manage external geotechnical consultants where required Ensure consultant outputs are practical, implemented, and aligned with site conditions Operational Support & Communication Provide clear and timely geotechnical advice to operations Work closely with operations to manage real-time ground conditions and implement practical controls Define exclusion zones, operating controls, and safe work practices Deliver concise weekly and monthly geotechnical reports focused on risks, actions, and forward-looking issues Escalate key geotechnical risks and issues to senior management SPECIFIC RESULTS EXPECTED Safe and stable pit wall performance Proactive identification and management of geotechnical risks Strong integration between geotechnical, planning and operations Reduced reliance on external consultants Development of a capable and self-sufficient geotechnical team
