ABOUT NEXT GROUP Next Group is Auckland’s residential technology partner, working across home networking, automation, multi-room audio, TV and video, security, access control and TV aerial/satellite installation. We take on jobs at every level, from small fixes to complete high-end builds, and we expect the same quality finish from our trades regardless of the size or budget of the job. We’re a hard-working team who work closely together on-site. We like a laugh — but when there’s a job to get done, we get it done properly and efficiently. ABOUT THE ROLE This is a hands-on trade role, first and foremost. Think of it as sitting alongside an electrician’s skill set — without needing the electrical licence. You’ll be the person on-site fitting, mounting, terminating and configuring the systems that make a home’s technology actually work, day in, day out. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Mounting TVs on wall brackets — properly levelled, cable-managed, done right the first time Terminating and fitting off data outlets and structured cabling Running and connecting speaker wiring for multi-room audio Installing and configuring Wi-Fi access points and network switches Installing satellite dishes and UHF aerials, and correctly using a signal meter to align and peak them Installing security cameras and access control hardware Basic network setup and troubleshooting (VLANs, PoE, subnetting — enough to get a site working, not enterprise-level design) Working cleanly and independently in customers’ homes, to the same standard whether it’s a modest job or a high-end build WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR This is a hands-on trade role first, technical knowledge second. We’ve found that candidates who look strong on paper often don’t have the practical tool skills the job actually needs — so we’re being upfront: if you can’t confidently drill, mount, terminate, align and problem-solve on-site, this isn’t the role for you. You should be able to: Use hand and power tools competently and safely Read a plan and figure out cable runs, mounting points, and containment Terminate data cabling to a proper standard (RJ45/keystone) Set up and align a satellite dish or UHF aerial using a signal meter Follow instructions but also make sensible calls on-site without hand-holding Communicate well with customers — you’re in their homes Pull your weight as part of a close-knit team, and keep a good attitude when the pressure’s on No formal qualifications required. We care about what you can actually do, not what’s on the certificate. A trade background (electrical, data/telecoms, AV) is a bonus but not essential if your hands-on skills are there. Control4 experience would be ideal, but it’s not a dealbreaker — we can bring you up to speed on the platform if the hands-on skills are there. WHY NEXT GROUP Varied work — from small jobs through to complete high-end builds, so you’re not doing the same thing every day A genuine path to grow into a senior or lead technician role On-the-job training and upskilling as the technology evolves A tight-knit team with a good day-to-day culture Trusted with autonomy on-site — once you know the job, you’re not being micromanaged Phone, van and laptop provided We’re a close, hard-working team — we back each other up on-site, we have a laugh, and we take real pride in doing the job properly, on every home we work on.
