Data Architect Job Summary We are looking for a forward-thinking Data Architect to design and govern our modern AWS-based data platform. In this role, you will define the overarching technical vision, designing robust Lakehouse architectures that support both complex batch processing and low-latency real-time streaming. The Data Architect will be responsible for end-to-end data architecture across data ingestion, storage, transformation, data modeling, data consumption, governance, security, and operational capabilities. You will act as the technical compass for the Data Engineering and Analytics teams, establishing best practices, evaluating new technologies, and ensuring our data architecture aligns with industry-standard governance frameworks. Your designs will serve as the foundation for reporting, advanced analytics, and future-ready AI/MLOps integrations. Key Responsibilities · Architecture Design & Strategy - Design scalable, secure, and cost-effective end-to-end data platform architectures on AWS, heavily utilizing Lakehouse patterns. Establish and maintain comprehensive platform standards, including data layering, table format conventions, partitioning strategies, naming conventions, orchestration patterns, and deployment practices. · Reusable Frameworks & Platform Capabilities - Design and drive reusable frameworks, common components, and platform capabilities to support engineering and operational needs, such as ETL/ELT frameworks, Data Quality frameworks, monitoring and observability, metadata and lineage, data access control, and data lifecycle management. · Non-Functional Design & Operations Ownership - Take full ownership of non-functional designs, including disaster recovery strategies, capacity planning, automated table maintenance and housekeeping, robust pipeline monitoring, and continuous platform cost efficiency optimization. · Data Governance Compliance & Implementation - Ensure the data platform architecture strictly complies with enterprise data policies and standards set by the Data Governance team. Design and implement technical patterns that enforce these policies, focusing on metadata management, automated Data Catalog integration, and the execution of Data Quality rules. · Data Modeling Leadership - Oversee conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling across the organization. Ensure data models accurately represent complex financial domains (spending, lending, deposits) and are optimized for downstream consumption. · Technology Evaluation - Continuously evaluate and prototype modern data technologies and cloud-native services to optimize platform performance and cost. · AI/ML Enablement - Collaborate with Data Scientists to design architectures that seamlessly feed high-quality data into feature stores and MLOps platforms. Qualifications · 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or data platform work. Including owning architecture or technical design. · Experience designing a data platform on a major cloud, ideally AWS (S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lake Formation or equivalents elsewhere) · Strong conceptual and practical understanding of distributed compute engines (Apache Spark) and workflow orchestration (Apache Airflow). · Solid data modelling background — dimensional, Data Vault, or an equivalent approach you can defend · Understanding of data governance concepts: cataloging, lineage, access control, and data retention · Strong understanding of SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles applied to data platforms.
