Rural Support Services Officer

Desert Blue Connect is looking for a warm, energetic and community-minded person to join our Community Initiatives team as a Rural Support Service Officer. Based in the welcoming country town of Morawa, this is a unique opportunity to create work that matters across the seven shires of Yalgoo, Perenjori, Mingenew, Carnamah, Three Springs, Morawa and Coorow. No two weeks will look quite the same. You might be meeting with a local school, planning a community event, connecting with an Aboriginal organisation, supporting a health promotion campaign or helping someone find a service they may not otherwise have known about. This role is waiting for the right person—someone who understands country communities, enjoys working with people and wants the freedom to be creative, resourceful and responsive to local needs. About the role As our Rural Support Service Officer, you will become a trusted and familiar presence across the region. You will listen to local communities, identify emerging needs and create inclusive activities that promote women’s health, mental health, children’s wellbeing, and awareness of family and sexual violence. You will also help connect people with Desert Blue Connect and other services that can support them. You will work independently from our Morawa office while remaining part of a supportive and collaborative team. Your work will include: Building genuine relationships with community members and local organisations Planning and coordinating community events, activities and health promotion campaigns Working alongside schools, health services, community resource centres, Aboriginal organisations, local governments and other service providers Identifying local priorities and opportunities across the seven shires Promoting Desert Blue Connect’s services throughout the region Helping people in rural communities connect with services and support Developing local partnerships and referral pathways Ensuring activities are welcoming, inclusive, culturally appropriate and suited to each community Maintaining program records, collecting data and contributing to funding reports and service evaluation About you You may already work in community development, health promotion, social work or a related area—or you may bring strong community-based experience and transferable skills. More importantly, you will be someone who is approachable, organised and genuinely interested in people. You will be comfortable starting conversations, building relationships and working with a high level of independence. You will bring: Qualifications and/or relevant experience in health promotion, community development, social work or a related field Strong relationship-building and communication skills Initiative, creativity and the confidence to work autonomously The ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate a variety of activities A respectful and compassionate approach to working with Aboriginal people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds A willingness to travel throughout the region A current driver’s licence Confidence using email, Microsoft Office and other everyday technology Experience in facilitation or project management would be welcomed but is not essential. You will also need, or be willing to obtain, a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check. Why this role is special This is more than an office-based position.
