About the Role This is a 12-month fixed term position . The role of the Link Worker will be utilising your real-life experience, coupled with skills learned through education and training to facilitate the development of social connections and encourage the support of other community members to be inclusive. It is through developing these social connections and linkages that consumers and their support networks can independently be active in community life. The Link worker works with consumers, their family members and carers to link in with a range of social and community networks e.g. to find and attend a community class or social group with a consumer that matches their interests. or try out different sporting groups to find their passion. They will have a major role in the promotion and development of social prescribing in the day-to-day work of MHAOD workers. This role will work in Geelong 3-days of the week and Portarlington for 2-days. Key Responsibilities Supporting consumers to participate in age-appropriate activities and outings in the community to, Foster independence and belonging in their local community Encourage social links in the community Reduce isolation, loneliness and stigma Improve sense of well-being Contribute to reviewing and developing care and risk plans, reflecting upon individual goals, aspirations and capabilities Provide learning through example and case studies Encourage safety and well-being of clients and complete incident reports as required What you will bring Cert IV Peer Work (Mental Health or AOD), Intentional Peer Support, or equivalent informal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level Personal experience of mental illness or psychological distress and recovery Demonstrated experience working with people with complex support needs, including associated risks such as substance use, frequent inpatient admissions or self-harm Knowledge of relevant community resources, particularly in health, alcohol and other drugs, legal, income support, employment and recreation Ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders where influence, negotiation and consultation are required Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to contribute positively within a team and build effective partnerships Requirements Ability to obtain or provide: NDIS Worker Screening Check Working With Children Check Current Driver Licence Evidence of right to work in Australia Join our team As a valued employee, this opportunity will reward you with a variety of benefits including: Not-for-profit salary packaging options (around $15k in tax free earnings). 4 weeks of annual leave per annum.
