We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Software Engineer to join our core internal engineering team. In this role, you will be a primary contributor to system integration and system development of retail systems. Secondary role is to provide system support to troubleshoot complex production issues and ensure system reliability. Job Responsibilities: System Integration Architect and develop robust APIs (RESTful) and middleware to facilitate real-time data exchange between in-house systems and third-party retail platforms (e.g., POS, ERP, Order Management Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, and E-commerce platforms). Build and maintain event-driven architectures to ensure accurate, real-time synchronization of inventory, pricing, and customer data across all channels. Implement secure authentication and authorization protocols (e.g. OAuth, JWT) for all internal and external API integrations. In-House System Development Design, build, and deploy scalable, secure, and highly available in-house applications (e.g. inventory management tools, operational dashboards, customer-facing services). Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code (e.g. PHP, .NET) Lead the transition toward a microservices and API-first architecture. Champion engineering best practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing (unit and integration), and rigorous code reviews. Collaborate with Business Solution Manager and Business Analyst to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Database Development & Optimization Design, optimize, and maintain MySQL databases – including schema design, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning Write complex SQL queries (joins, subqueries, aggregations) and analyze execution plans Implement database best practices (normalization, partitioning, caching, replication where needed) System Support & Maintenance Provide system support to users for production issues Perform deep-dive root-cause analysis on system failures, performance bottlenecks, and integration data discrepancies. Develop and implement hotfixes, patches, and performance optimizations. Set up and monitor application performance and logging tools to proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact store operations or customers. Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience: 5+ years of experience in software engineering, systems development and system integration. Technical Skills: Strong background in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., PHP,NET, Java, C#, Python etc). Solid experience in API design (REST) and integration middleware. Experience with cloud platforms e.g. AWS or AliCloud Solid understanding of database architecture e.g. MySQL DBA certificate Preferable Qualifications Direct experience working in the Retail industry is a definite advantage Familiarity with specific retail technology ecosystems e.g. POS, ECOM, CRM, OMS, ERP, WMS etc Understanding of retail-specific challenges such as high-volume transaction processing, real-time inventory synchronization, and omnichannel fulfilment Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and able to read and write English technical specification We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
