We're recruiting on behalf of one of the Waikato's most respected Chartered Accounting firms, based in Matamata. Due to continued growth and increasing demand for advisory services, they're looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to their team. You'll be given the opportunity to work closely with business owners, build meaningful client relationships, and develop your skills beyond traditional compliance-focused accounting. As a Senior Accountant, you'll manage your own portfolio of clients while providing a combination of compliance and value-add advisory services. You'll become a trusted advisor, helping clients understand their financial position, navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and make informed business decisions. You'll also play an important role within the team by mentoring junior accountants and helping develop the next generation of accounting professionals. What you'll be doing Managing a portfolio of rural, commercial, and family-owned business clients Preparing annual financial statements, tax returns, and compliance work Providing proactive accounting, taxation, and business advisory services Assisting clients with budgeting, cashflow forecasting, and management reporting Identifying risks, opportunities, and areas for business improvement Building and maintaining strong client relationships Mentoring and supporting junior team members Working closely with Managers and Partners on advisory projects and strategic initiatives Contributing to process improvements and best-practice initiatives What you'll bring Previous experience in public practice accounting at a Senior Accountant level Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting and taxation principles CA qualified or working towards CA accreditation (preferred) Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Strong organisational and time management abilities A proactive and client-focused approach A genuine interest in value-add advisory work What's in it for you?
