About the role The H&S Advisor role is to support the H&S Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-managed workplace within the residential construction environment. This role is primarily responsible for the detailed, risk-based review of subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), ensuring they are appropriate to the scope and level of risk involved before work commences. As a key member of the Health & Safety team, you will coordinate H&S processes, manage compliance documentation, support subcontractor management, and ensure high levels of administrative accuracy across all safety systems. Key responsibilities Undertake detailed, risk-based reviews of subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) to ensure alignment with project scope, site conditions, and legislative requirements Assess SSSPs relative to the level of risk involved and identify gaps, inconsistencies, or inadequate controls within SSSPs Maintain accurate approval records and ensure no subcontractor commences work without compliant documentation Oversee document and record maintenance for employees and contractors, ensuring corrective actions are completed promptly Initiate subcontractor pre-qualification by sending documentation, tracking returns, and ensuring readiness before site commencement Participate in weekly check-in meetings with the H&S Manager to review safety measures and emerging risks Prepare monthly Health & Safety and Management reports, including maintaining the Incident & Accident Register Create and update H&S registers that track each project through its life cycle, ensuring integrity and accuracy of all information Assist the H&S Manager with routine site inspections, identifying hazards and supporting basic risk assessments Coordinate training, inductions, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns About you Proven experience reviewing and assessing subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) within the construction industry Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to apply proportionate review levels based on scope and hazard profile Practical knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its application within residential construction Experience working in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar coordination-focused role Excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in documentation and compliance tracking Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with subcontractors and site teams Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and digital safety management systems Full driver's licence H&S certification preferred Health & Safety experience within a residential construction environment is preferred for this role.
