Backend Software Engineer – Telecom Protocols Location: Damansara, Malaysia Work Mode: Hybrid Employment type: Permanent Our client is a global technology services and digital engineering organization with multi-billion-dollar revenue and operations across numerous countries worldwide. With a workforce of over 20,000 professionals, they deliver innovative solutions in cloud, data, AI, and enterprise modernization to leading enterprises across industries. We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer – Telecom Protocols to develop and maintain backend services supporting advanced telecommunications platforms. Responsibilities • Develop and maintain telecom protocol decoders for LTE, 5G NR, GSM, and WCDMA message parsing. • Implement chipset-specific ICD (Interface Control Document) updates for leading vendors such as Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek. • Decode throughput metrics and implement parsing for NAS, RRC, RLC, MAC, and PHY protocol layers. • Design and implement assignment orchestration systems and support network troubleshooting and benchmarking capabilities. • Optimize database and application performance using SQL Server and T-SQL. • Resolve chipset-specific decoder issues and troubleshoot production defects and customer escalations. • Support release activities, including preparing release notes, code freezes, and user manual updates. • Collaborate with distributed teams across Sweden, India, and Malaysia, participating in architecture reviews and Agile sprint activities. • Maintain and update technical documentation, including user manuals and changelogs. Requirements Must-have: • Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or an equivalent qualification. • Minimum four to five years of strong software development experience in C# and C/C++. • Deep understanding of telecom protocols, including LTE, 5G NR, GSM, and WCDMA. • Experience interpreting and implementing chipset ICD (Interface Control Document) specifications. • Knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL. • Understanding of network protocol stacks, including NAS, RRC, RLC, MAC, and PHY. • Ability to interpret complex chipset ICD specification documents from Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek. • Strong technical documentation skills, including user manuals, release notes, and changelogs. • Ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams across Sweden, India, and Malaysia. • Customer-oriented approach to resolving production defects and L3 escalations. Nice-to-have: • Experience with Qualcomm, Samsung Exynos, or MediaTek chipset decoding. • Experience developing TypeScript-based map/UI components. • Experience using protocol analysis tools such as QXDM and Wireshark. • Experience in telecommunications analytics or network optimisation. • Experience handling large datasets and high-performance protocol parsing. Education: • Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or an equivalent qualification. Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
