Junior Operations Engineer / Linux Server Engineer Job Summary We are looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Junior Operations / Linux Server Engineer to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for maintaining websites and managing online production servers, handling day-to-day operations, deployment, and troubleshooting under guidance. This is a fully remote position, suitable for someone who can work independently and take ownership of server reliability. Location / Type • Job Type: Full-time, 100% Work From Home (Remote / WFH) — no office required Key Responsibilities Website & Server Maintenance • Maintain and ensure high availability of company websites and online services • Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux-based online servers (Ubuntu / CentOS) • Manage web services including Nginx, Apache, MySQL, Redis, and related components • Monitor server performance, uptime, and resource usage Troubleshooting & Incident Response • Identify and resolve Linux OS and server-related issues promptly • Troubleshoot website downtime, slow loading, and service failures • Participate in on-call rotation to respond to critical incidents outside working hours; handle common attack alerts (brute-force, abnormal traffic) Routine Operations • Perform system patching, security updates, and version upgrades • Execute server and database backups and recovery per established procedures; participate in recovery drills • Perform log analysis to detect anomalies and prevent potential failures • Assist in managing cloud server resources (Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, etc.) and CDN configuration (Cloudflare, Alibaba/Tencent CDN, etc.) • Assist with DNS resolution; apply for, deploy, and renew SSL certificates (Let's Encrypt, cloud-vendor certs); handle certificate-expiry alerts • Configure firewall rules, security groups, and proxies per standards; help manage VPN (OpenVPN, WireGuard) user access • Use monitoring tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana) to check system status and respond to / escalate alerts • Handle tickets, server inspections, capacity-expansion support, documentation, and knowledge-base maintenance Automation & Improvement • Write and maintain Bash / Python scripts under guidance to automate routine tasks (scheduled backups, log/cache cleanup, alert handling); learn and use IaC tools such as Ansible • Collaborate to improve server reliability and monitoring • Use existing Docker, Jenkins, and GitLab CI pipelines to run build, test, and deploy tasks; understand the basics of containerization • Document server configurations, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures Requirements Technical Skills • Linux OS: minimum 1 year experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS; familiar with basic operations and common commands • Command Line: comfortable in a CLI environment (SSH, vim/nano, grep, awk, systemctl, journalctl) • Scripting: basic to intermediate Bash scripting for automation (Python a plus) • Web Servers: hands-on experience with Nginx and/or Apache • Databases: basic knowledge of MySQL (or MariaDB) — backup, restore, simple queries • Caching: familiarity with Redis • Networking: basic network knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, firewall) • Cloud Platforms: familiar with at least one — AWS (EC2, VPC, CloudWatch), Google Cloud, or Alibaba Cloud • Version Control: basic Git (clone, pull, commit) • CI/CD: experience with Jenkins or similar tools is a plus • Monitoring Tools: familiar with htop, netstat, iptables, fail2ban, cron • Troubleshooting: able to debug server and application issues independently Soft Skills • Responsibility: strong ownership of tasks and server health • On-call willingness: able to provide on-call support when needed • Self-motivation: able to work independently in a remote environment without micromanagement • Problem-solving: logical thinker who can analyze and fix issues step by step • Communication: able to report issues clearly and update team members on progress Experience • 1–2 years of hands-on operations / Linux experience, or solid relevant internship / project experience
