Emerson Building & Construction Ltd (EBC) is a specialist environmental and civil construction company celebrating over 20 years in business. We deliver high-quality public infrastructure throughout Auckland's Regional Parks and surrounding areas, including: Walking track construction and maintenance Timber boardwalks and bridges Viewing platforms Boxed stairs Retaining structures Concrete footpaths and foundations Drainage and erosion control works Environmental restoration projects Storm damage repairs Regional park infrastructure Our projects are often undertaken in remote bush, coastal and environmentally sensitive locations where quality workmanship, teamwork and safety are essential. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and reliable General Construction Labourer / Hammer hand to join our growing team with a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar civil construction site role. This is a physically demanding outdoor construction role involving a wide variety of civil and environmental construction projects. Working under the direction of experienced Site Supervisors, you will assist with the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure throughout New Zealand. We work within and outside the Auckland region and some project will require you to be staying away from home for extended periods. This role is suited to someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in producing quality workmanship, works safely and reliably, and is looking to build a long-term career within the construction industry. Key Responsibilities Your duties may include: General construction labouring and hammerhand duties Walking track construction and maintenance Timber boardwalk and bridge construction Construction of boxed stairs and retaining structures Concrete formwork, placing and finishing Drainage installation and maintenance Track surfacing, gravel placement and compaction Hand Digging earthworks and site preparation Vegetation clearance and environmental restoration works Loading, unloading and transporting construction materials Manual handling of timber, gravel, concrete and other building materials Operating hand and power tools safely Assisting excavator and machinery operators Maintaining clean, safe and environmentally responsible worksites Following all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures Essential Requirements Applicants should demonstrate: Previous experience in construction, civil works, landscaping, earthworks, forestry, concreting or another physically demanding outdoor industry. Able to work outside of Auckland and live away from home for extended periods during the full project . Ability to safely use common construction hand and power tools. Good understanding of workplace Health & Safety. Strong work ethic with a reliable and positive attitude. Ability to work effectively within a diverse team, demonstrating patience, respect and clear communication with colleagues from a range of cultural and language backgrounds. A willingness to learn and follow direction from supervisors. A commitment to producing quality workmanship. A current Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence is preferred, or an ability to gain one Physical Requirements This is a physically demanding role. Applicants must be capable of: Walking several kilometres each day to and from remote construction sites. Working on steep, uneven and challenging terrain. Carrying tools and construction materials over long distances. Lifting, digging, shovelling and undertaking repetitive manual tasks. Working outdoors in all weather conditions. Working occasional Saturdays when required to meet project programmes.
